Only had the truck for 1.5 years and ended up costing me around 10k. The truck went to auction. The US dollar was good at the time compared to the Canadian dollar so some poor American bought it.

Sometimes, when cold and coming to a stop, my truck sort of jerks or "clunks" as it downshifts. Should I be worried? Truck is a 2018 and has 1,000 miles.

When the TFS drove my 2018 for the howl he checked out the harsh 2 to 1 downshift. I didn’t talk to him directly, but the shop manager said it is a shift logic issue. He said all Tacoma’s can do it. Mine didn’t do it the first 1200 miles. Now I have 2200 on it and it’s done it a half dozen times or so. I can’t do it on command. The stars have to align to get it to happen ha

I have a 2017 Tacoma confined to the back lot of a dealership with one of these bad axles.. it didn't even make it 1500 miles before the problem showed. Now I am in a loaner car indefinitely. You definitely know it is a warped axle after putting new drums on and the issue comes back less than 500 miles later.

That was also my experience with the symptoms, but the dealer took only two days to fix it. The reason it took two days was because the parts had to be shipped in overnight. Unless there is a shortage of axles, it should not take long at all to fix.

Yeah, now a day removed from dropping it off, my mind has cleared a bit and it's not a insurmountable feat.. just the shock factor before you even make a first payment. Glad to hear it cleared up your problem tho

Mine is the same. So it’s pretty normal then?

I felt the same way - it was my first new vehicle and it bothered me to have to replace an axle at 800 miles. I'm back to loving the truck again. Not a big deal in the whole scheme of things. Besides, the dealer gave me a new Rav4 to drive, and I liked the blind spot side mirrors so much I bought a pair for the Tacoma. Best thing I've done to it.

My 2018 does the same thing, I have about 1,300 miles.

Haha, they tried to get me in a new Rav4 as a loaner and I gave them a blank stare look until they upgraded to a 4Runner... now I can't get the wife and mother in law out of it... this is going to get expensive. . .

They failed to fix it x6 times. Only the last visit did they even acknowledge it, they attempted the TSB and it didn't work. It's noticeable in the cabin with the radio on. I had two trucks with the same identical issue. Double cab long bed TRD offroad 4x4.

I had to find a lemon lawyer willing to " work". Toyota did not protest request, I documented every encounter.

it's crazy to think if I didn't go that route, I would owe Toyota a payment every month. Just to " deal with it".

Wow, that sucks man. Glad it finally worked out (I think?) in the end! I think i have one of the loudest ones on this forum, but i think i remember you having one of the only ones that sounded worse than mine ha

I purchased part of the TSB for my SR5 today. I know Toyota won’t do anything as quickly as I want so I’m going to just do it myself. If it works, great. I’ll make sure my dealer and Toyota knows and just wash my hands of it. If it doesn’t help then crap haha

Had a Silverado biggest piece of crap ever my whole family has had them. Go sit in one and drive it and then aks yourself which one between a chevy and atacoma is going tonlast.

My Silverados was a money pit and they will always be putting out half assed products with bigger screens and little features standard because their drivetrains and hardware are crap.
