Another noob tire question

I have an 07 DC TRD Sport 4x4 with 17" Sport Wheels and this week I am getting the TSB completed along with 5100s all the way around. My plan is to set the fronts to 1.75 so they will level the truck and my question is whether 275/70R17 Goodyear Wrangler ATS tires will fit without any rubbing issues? I would like to keep both front and rear mud flaps on if possible. Thanks in advance for any helpful replies.

It will be close, I think you will have some rubbing issues with tires of that size. But maybe with some minor trimming and wheel spacers, you might can wedge them in there.

The 275/70-17s are .4" wider and 1.6" taller. I've read larger tires are a problem but is the problem the height and/or width? Seems like plenty of vertical room in the wheel wells for taller tires. Any idea under what conditions and where will they rub?

 

i am planning on running 275/70/17 on my sport rims with 5100's set at 2.5". i have done a ton of research. there are a few people on here that are running them with no problems. the problem is the width not the height. if it rubs it would be on the upper control arm.

as for a 265/75/17 tire, i spent several months trying to find someone that made that size, i have not been able to find one. i think there used to be a few out there, but it is no longer a tire being produced. if so let me know.

 

With my new tires there is about 3/4 of an inch between the tire and UCA and they have yet to rub while cornering, parking etc. Off-roading may be a different story however my truck sees no serious off-roading. I had considered running wheel spacers however the periodical maintenance shyed me away. Wider tire stance would look cool though. Here are some pics.

want to have to use wheel spacers. i am going to get the same thing done in december. i already have the 5100's, i am just trying to milk a few more miles out of my tires. i am taking my truck to the dealership in the morning to try and convince
them that i need a new leaf pack (tsb). i have the exact same truck exect mine is a 2008. i am so excited to hear you are not having problems. for some reason alot of people don't go with 275/70/17. it is 265/70 or 285. it seems like 275 is the perfect fit without the drama of rubbing. how much did the 275 change your m.p.g ?

 

My dealer had no problem completing the TSB after I mentioned that I haul a boat around. My dealer charged me 4 hours of labor to change out the front and rear shocks when performing the TSB which I though was a little excessive. 3 hours would have been more reasonable in my opinion. He claimed that he threw in the front-end alignmnet which I assumed was bullshit and should've been inclusive in the TSB swap. I am happy with the end result so it's all good.

I have not noticed a significant change in gas mileage however I am on my first tank since job completion and I drive primarily in town so the mileage sucks anyway. My TSB has not settled at all and will the front 5100's set to 1.75" there is still a subtle forward leaning rake although some picture angles make it appear like a rearward rake. I can say that the truck rides noticeable better without a load and have yet to tow my boat with the new suspension.

BTW, I put my OEM Bridgestones on my wifes 05 4-Runner as they only had 25K miles on them.

i will post some pictures when done. i have 35,055 miles on my tires, i am thinking by the first of the year, it will be time to get the 275's. i will mention when i go there
in the morning that i pull a trailer. i have noticed that my springs have been squeeking horrriably. i have printed out the tsb on the rear leaf replacement. it is
t-sb-0305-08 rear spring harsh ride. i am taking it down there with me b/c when i called about it they have never done one at that dealership. i figured i better have my bases covered. i have read through it and basicly it says, that some people may experience a harsh ride when weight is in the truck, and updated rear springs are available to improve this condition. it says nothing about a technical analysis need to
be preformed to be approved. i am just going to go down there with it in my hand and say, look, i am having this problem, and i want it fixed. i really don't see how they can not do it. i wanted them to check on some other things also before my warranty runs out.

 

Yeah, you should be covered. My LD had performed about ten spring pack replacements under the TSB and was fairly knowledgeable. I also have'nt experience the rear shudder when I make a turn form a stopped position. Not sure if it is the new tires, suspension or both. I always figured it was due to th unusually long wheel base of the LB. I recall my Taco is 32" longer than my wifes 4-runner.

I got approved for the tsb, i am going to get it done this week. I just made the cuttoff i have 35,350 miles on my truck. hee, hee.

 

V-TRAIN, i just wanted to see how the 275 fit with the 5100 at 2.5". Any rubbing on the UCA? THanks!

 

try 4wheelonline.com got me some nitto 33's on there they make that size for the 09's

 

i have decided to get icon extended travel shocks b/c i have a bumper being made by cbi offroad. you will be fine with 275's with the 5100's at 2.5". there are a few guys running that on here.

 

I'm a little concerned about the UCA. I just met a guy with 275/70/17 mickey thompsons and he said that at full turn, he rubs the UCA. I have about 1/2" clearance right now.

 

first find out if his tires are the same width as the ones you are looking at.
they vary some b/w diffrent manufactures slightly sometimes.
also, what rims he is running, and what the backspacing is, that could be causing the rub. you could always add a wheel spacer. there is a group buy going on here now.

Ahhh, i wish you never mentioned the group buy. Now I have to think about spending money I don't have and by tomorrow!

The other guy was running stock sport rims as well.

 

i know it sucks, i think firestone, goodyear, cooper, mastercraft, and bfg are the only ones that make a 275/70/17.

i know i am thinking about that as well, damn group buys.

 

So I went ahead and installed the ToyTec 1.5" AAL for TSB and also had the front Bilstein's cranked up to 2.5". Prior to this, with the TSB and Billies set at 1.75", the truck more or less appeared to sit even with approximately 1/2" higher in the rear. Now there definitely appears to be some noticeable rake but it still looks pretty good. In hind sight I would have rogered up for the ToyTec coil overs and cranked them up to 3" and it would be perfect. Last week I towed my 4500 lb boat which I thought may settle the rear leafs but it didn't; it does tow a lot better. I took some crappy cell phone pics to illustrate the new suspension.







This last pic shows me parked next to a stock Pre-Runner and you can definitely tell the height difference when focusing on the side mirrors.



I may ditch the mud flaps and I kinda regret not buying 285's now. Oh well...I can always replace them.
