It’s the solar panel for ECT power. Needs to be charged to get maximum boost out of ECT.

I also have those lights and like a previous post said, they run along the driver side of the truck up underneath and tap in to the cargo lamp wiring. As far as I know, they aren't a dealer option on the truck, although an OE part. So likely that toyota didn't put them in, just the previous owner. They could be tapped in anywhere which is why you'll have to follow the wires to find out.

    From the installation instructions:
    Perform a Function Test.
    (a) Temporarily reconnect the negative battery terminal. Install a short pin if necessary.
    (b) Open a door to confirm light operation.
NOTE: On D-Cab models, the cargo switch must be in the “Door” position.

Wouldn’t be the first time someone mounted lights, but never got around to wiring them. A chance of that I’d say.

Here is a pdf of the bed light installation guide. This should help you figure out how it should be wired.

BTW...I threw the instructions in the garbage when I got mine. I have them wired independently of everything else with a switch on the dash.

So there's a chance someone may have wired them up a different way than the instructions called for.

Definitely look around for a switch somewhere

The pics the op posted looks like there is a gasket between the bed and the light. Mine don’t have gaskets. Does anyone else’s?

Same here. I ordered my truck with them. Appears to be a Gulf States Toyota port installed item. Funny thing about them is that they come with a door jamb sticker: Cargo Carrying Capacity Reduced, Modifications... reduce capacity by 1 lb.

They're really nice to have, especially if you have a tonneau cover. I have a tonneau cover so I installed them because the cargo light does nothing for illuminating the bed when the cover is closed. Get them, you won't be disappointed!
