It is right next to the cat on the driver’s side bottom. Since it failed inspection and I fix it, how do I insure it then?

That's the spot they all rust in.

Good question, I'm sure someone here has the answer. I'm not a welder but I would think someone could repair it. I know some states have state inspectors that approve or deny the road worthy nature of a salvage title vehicle. not saying that's what you need to do but it's a known path.

I can weld and a state inspection is a 500-750.00. I don’t think my insurance company will insure the truck being a part of a class action lawsuit. After I fix it and a get in accident later down the road pertaining to this frame it would be a loophole for them to get out of it.

Wow nice Crawler, you sure can weld!

Yeah i see your point, i guess you could ask them and get something in writing if they agree to a state inspection. By the way not only am I not a welder, i'm also not a lawyer. LOL

It was inspected on 11/15/2017 and passed. Which I don’t think they even inspected it to start with. Plus all crc coating is coming off and I even had the truck sit in my heated garage for a week curing the crc.

Sounds like 05 had a full 12 months of warranty and the 06 is only good for 12 years from the original purchase date

Toyota doing the right thing. Whoever passed that frame just 4 1/2 months ago needs to be disciplined and re-trained. Toyota knows they CRC'd a bad frame.

That is good to hear you are getting a replacement frame. According to the class action settlement:
    • The coverage offers the later of 12 years from the Date of First Use (DOFU) or one year from the date of Final Approval. (5/21/2017)
Going by this statement all Tacoma trucks part of this settlement are covered until 5/21/18 (one year from the date of Final Approval. (5/21/2017), regardless of your service date so Toyota is doing what the lawsuit stated they have to do.

I did find a like new frame at salvage yard 60 miles away for 900.00 it only had 17,000 miles on it. The truck was damaged upper cab and roof and no damage to the frame.

So reading through this thread, did Toyota change anything with the '11-'15 frames? I have an '11 in Iowa (not in the 'cold climate zone' but they use a ton of salt around here), just wondering if there is any extended warranty on the later 2nd gens and if they are just as prone to frame rot. I have a fair amount of surface rust on the outside visible parts of my frame, haven't crawled underneath it yet...

I was just under mine trying to clean rust off it and found a pretty large crack. It’s not technically a hole but think it’s going to pass or fail?

Yes you should fail with that crack and I'm guessing they will be able to poke a hole through it during their test.
