How much would this effect fuel econ? I can't stand when the engine is in atkinson, but I know toyota went with it to help the mpgs.

Mat expects mpg to be affected but it hasn't been developed yet, so the answer doesn't yet exist.

He has stated in the past that a full otto tune would result in a mpg decrease

Whatever Toyota thinks Atkinson did to help fuel mileage they failed miserably. In order to get anywhere near the claimed mileage you have to drive this thing like a geriatric winter visitor from Canada on their way to Costco on Saturday morning, on the street and slow enough on the high way to piss off everyone in the far right lane. LOL That my biggest disappointment with the truck, otherwise I love it.
Hell it only get about 3 MPG better than my 16 year old Frontier that had 300k miles.

Shins are in correct direction. Tapered skinny end forward.

Is the 3rd member the one that connects to the pinion in the rear axle?

Don’t think it’s a tire balance issue because some days the vibe is worse than other days...wtf?

My 99 frontier got better mpg, although it was a lot smaller, and an i4. I average 15-16 these days. Best ever for a tank was 19.6 completely stock with extreme geriatric driving.

    No tune.

But the question arises that less fuel means less power right? Well you are probably right because an Atkinson cycle produces about 30% less power than an Otto cycle. And to counter that, electric motors are used to give an initial push until the cycle can be used. Toyota makes its Atkinson cycle engine stop in mid compression cycle to help in the startup next time when you turn the engine on. This thing also applies to engine’s start-stop feature.

You better email him then, because he's probably awash in alerts right now.

BTW, why did you add "rookie" to your reply?

If you would quote where he has gone over it, that would be great. There’s a lot of bs to sort through on this thread. Thanks man.

I assume he's talking about engines that use Atkinson cycle in general, mostly hybrids.
