In terms of weight, what's the most you've towed safely utilizing your tacoma? And what are the specs of the taco you used to do it?

I’ve got a 19’ Maxum ski boat that I tow regularly with my 01 V6 Prerunner. Not sure how much it weighs but I feel like it’s close to the limit...

On my 98 reg cab I carried 30 2x10x16's, 1 2x8x20, 16 2x6x8, 20 2x4x8s. Good thing I had a lift because she was squatted. It was quite top heavy as most of that was on a roof rack, but I hauled it 20 or so miles home like a champ.

    Hey Kevin,

So you want to know the largest thing I towed with my Tacoma. First generation V6 Tacomas are only rated to tow about 5,000 pounds. The four cylinder Tacomas might be rated for less. I might be wrong on this, though. The largest thing I tow on a regular basis is our family's 1984 Classic Sport 15 Boston Whaler, which only weighs about 1,600 pounds with the trailer. It certainly does not have any trouble with the old Whaler.

The largest thing I have towed was a 3/4 ton Ford Pickup truck up a snowy pass. It was not on a trailer, though. We just hooked it to the Tacoma with a large tow rope.

    Take it easy,
    Paul

I towed a 1989 BMW 525i on a tow dolly in my 2002 v6 pre runner with 270k and it was pretty sketchy brake wise. power wise it wasn't too bad. the car weighed 3900 lbs and the dolly was maybe a few hundred?

but this was also florida where we have no hills

2016 Rockwood Mini Lite 22ft travel trailer, dry weight of about 4k pounds, plus several hundred pounds of tools/gear/etc. in the bed. Towed it from VA to OR. I had upgraded the front brakes, and had a weight distribution hitch. Truck is a 2011 DCLB Sport with factory tow package. The truck did it, but it hated the Smoky Mountains! Got 5mpg on one tank in that area.

I only have the 4 cylinder 3RZ so it's limited to 3,500 pounds. I towed a 2007 Honda Civic home a couple hours. The car plus the tow dolly put me at about 250 pounds over the towing capacity, but it handled perfectly fine. Didn't feel like I was pulling anything. I have Toyota Tundra brake calipers which are much larger and powerful and allowed me to brake much more efficiently. The v6 can tow up to 5,000 pounds.

I don't have a pic of the Civic, but here's me practice towing my W210. The Benz weighs WAY WAY more than the Civic, about 1,000 pounds so I was pushing 4,500 pound on my 4 Cylinder. Surprisingly it handled and towed fine even though I didn't exceed 15 MPH.

I was about to tow my 1998 5-lug home, but my friend with a Tahoe offered to tow it.

By far my favorite thing to tow haha

I hauled my 16’ single axle rv about 20 miles. Before my new suspension and I had my camper shell on so I was squatting but it seemed to tow ok. Not sure id want to tow it much further than that though without and electric brake.

Excellent, I have a boat of similar size (mine's a bit bigger), and just got the Taco and didn't know if I should even try but now I think it should handle it with relative ease

Makes me feel a lot better about towing knowing you can pull that much weight with a 4 cyl

I'm pretty sure your Benz weighs a little over 3600lbs. What year is it and what model rather than series?

I calculated it was pushing 1,000 over the weight limit from the curb weight of the Benz. It's also RWD but the manual states you can flat tow it for up to twenty miles at a speed of under 30 MPH.

Also factoring in the weight of the dolly itself.

You mean you had 1000lbs in it? The curb weight of your Benz is 3633lbs.-I'm guessing the tow dolly is about 200lbs.

The curb weight of the dolly was 750 pounds. 3633+750=4383

Or approximately 4,500 pounds accounting for whatever crap I had in the benz at the time.
