Maintenance Guidelines for over 160k (02 4WD)

Well, my 02 is over 160,000. Im looking for needed maintenance ideas or plans.
I bought the truck in 06. It was a one owner (116,000) and had all services completed in the factory book. The guy took care of this car. Well, so have I. Off road sometimes, mainly driven on maintained roads.
But, what should I be looking for as the mileage increases?
Had all belts (-the chain belt), plugs/wires and front pads put on last summer.

Other than a squeaky belt (when it gets wet) and some bent wheel issues, the trucks runs smooth..

Grease your Zerks!!!

 

Yep. Planning on doing that today!!

 

Just got under the truck to grease the zerks. I found 6. First time I have them myself. The one near the tranny was dirty dirty with grease thrown underneath the truck. The back end took about 6 pumps to fill.

 

Just keep on the regular maintenance (oil changes, grease fittings, occasional diff fluid, tranny fluid, etc.) and you should probably look into getting your water-pump replaced, cause you don't want it to leave you stranded.

Btw, when I was researching new tires, I ran across you photo. They look so good on your sweet ride, it made up my mind.

 

Timing belt should be every 60k. There should be a sticker on your's that says when it was last replaced.

Is that the same with a chain instead of the belt? Mine has a chain..

 

Chains are more like 80000-100000 i think

 

I would replace the timing chain with the water pump when it's ready. Drain and flush "all" fluids to include xmsn. What do your shocks look like? How about the leaf springs...(Yes I know they should last forever but just in case they don't) While you got the engine apart for the timing chain how about changing out all the hoses and belts to include the drive belt. Are you putting anything in the gas tank? I'd run a couple of additive that absorb water....Not sure if you have a fuel filter but I would look at doing that as well and if the fuel pump has never been changed out you might want to look at it as well. The timing chain seems to trigger alot of things and the "old girl" is going to take a little bit more maintenance to keep her purring....

 

Thanks guys. Awesome advice and rme, you give me a lot to think about. My leafs look descent and my shocks still ride good. I think shocks and maybe new leaf spring would be next,the ride is good but....I can tell it is getting close. I found this thread

That talks about belt/chain replacement. Trying to up my learning curve in order to understand what to tackle and when. I drive my truck everyday and want to maintain its performance for many years to come.

Chain? Where did you get a chain for the 1st gen?

 

I have not got a chain for my truck. It is the original chain. As far as I know, it is still in great shape.

 

I have 9 zerks me thinks some are hiding on u...

 

Hmm... never new the 1st gens had the chain. Anyone know of a conversion for a '01? Im not due for a belt change for some time, but when it comes around, it would be nice to put a timming chain in instead.
