Just in case anyone was looking - bought this - I'll report back that it works or remove the link.

Not really any good hardware or big bulk hardware stores around here that had this - so Amazon to the rescue.

@tekoma - as the solver of all things MX4 - random question, why did you use this extra hardware to pipe out your drain? I understand maybe just moving to clear drain tube for checking clogs, but why not just run the tube right out the bed?

Or just drill the hole necessary?

I just see it happening, with all the biological filth that will eventually try to go down those tubes, that the tiny hose barb will get clogged, causing backflow and leaks, or this spraying water all over the inside of the bed. Why not just drill the holes out?

Ya it will get some green gunk in the barbs in time but I’ll just remove and clean it. I did it because I have a bed mad that’s in the way of drilling through the floor of the bed and I wanted to be able to stash stuff against the back wall of the bed without crushing the drain house (I haul a lot of misc wood). I could have drilled through the side vertical wall but to void a kink in the hose that comes with the cover, the hole would need to be low and be at risk of being crushed.

It’s certainly not a requirement, just something that works well for me.

    Pre Purchase Trauma help needed!

I have a 2018 6ft bed Tacoma with a small AVGAS refueling rig in the back. The front side of the filling pipe is 7 inches from the inside edge of the bed bulkhead frame.

I am keen to install an MX4 but am concerned that the open/vertical state of the cover will take up more than 7" of the front of the bed. With the cover fully open I need full access to the filler tube.

I believe that the 6ft bed covers have 4 panels

Can anyone help this traumatized fool in his hour of need?

    Thanks

@sc00p You will just clear, it’s 6 3/4” to the edge of the cover.

went through this entire thread and didn't have my question answered. I'm pretty sure I know the answer but how hard is it to remove the tonneau cover? is it just the two knob screws and it lifts off? When hauling the bike I would love to be able to see out my back window. this cover is so much cleaner looking than the OEM one.

Yes that’s all that is needed. I removed mine multiple times by myself while installing. It’s small and light enough to handle by yourself.

You siliconed all (3) folding sections? Going to be doing this tonight - just making sure.

One last question - did you do a bottom seal as well? I was struggling to understand why you would do the bottom - isnt it better left not done so water drains out? The sides make sense but its not like water is going to be coming in the tailgate from below the truck right?

Right - you don’t want to fill in the corners of the aluminum where it meets the seal because you want water that gets through to drain to the side gutter system. I just put a bead between the aluminum brackets and the aluminum skin to prevent the water from wicking in toward the bed vs out into the gutter.

I have a long bed so it’s 4 sections, but yes, all sections. The rear section seemed to have the worse leaks before adding rh silicon btw

Sorry this post was in reference to the tailgate EPDM seal (understanding the sides is a spot for water to get in, but the bottom doesnt seem to be imo). But this does answer the other question I posted - thanks!

Sorry I think I was confused, you meant the tailgate. I put a filler strip not to prevent leaks but to allow me to pull gravel and mulch out without it falling through the crack of the bed and tailgate. The corners are still open for water to drain our if needed but I don’t get any water in there anymore
