I've reviewed the instructions a few times, and it looks as if the only areas of concern are the s/c oil/ overflow assembly and the air-box angle. This was their response:

"We have taken the difference between the Tacoma and the Hilux into consideration.
Firstly, with regards to the air cleaner – you will be receiving parts to connect your Tacoma air cleaner to the down pipe to the supercharger so not to worry.

Secondly, regarding the air pump – the air pump is electric and placed behind the radiator – this shouldn’t have to be moved but if it’s in the way it can be easily be relocated given that it is “free standing” There is only 1 pipe coming up to the exhaust manifold – worst case scenario is that the rubber pipe may have to be moved. The emissions system will not have to be removed!

We are confident that there should be no installation issues that anybody with a reasonable level of mechanical expertise could not handle.

I hope this helps – we look forward once you have installed it!"

The instructions say to completely remove the radiator. This seems to be for more of ease of installation. Also says to disconnect part of the a/c which requires you to have the coolant gas drained. Not sure why, though. Will have to examine the parts when they arrive and see if it can be installed without messing with the A/C hoses. Same with the radiator. I'd like to install it without taking the radiator out so i don't have to drain all the coolant and deal with that.

I have towed over 5k with my 4 cyl. It was not my intention to do so, but my dads diesel broke down and the trailer was stuck at the dealership with no way of getting it home. I only had to tow it about ten miles, but it was rough. It took about two minutes to get up to fifty mph, haha. I would not recommend it. I have dakars in the rear, and I have installed an aftermarket hithc and a seven pin adapter with a brake controller which made it somewhat bearable. I would definitely not do this without trailer brakes. No way.

That was kind of an exaggeration, but at the same time it was not. I was in first gear for like 15-20 seconds before I could shift.

It looks like a universal kit made for the rest of the world and retrofitted to work on the Tacoma. I want to know how this performs and I would like pictures or video after the install.

Well, not really. It's a kit made in a country that has the driver on the right side of the car, so some of the engine components are in a different location. Primarily, the brake booster is on the other side and the air box is a different shape. Those are the only things i see that may cause installation difficulties.

Yes. Mine is actually sitting in Customs right now. I need to call them to figure out what I need to do to get it released, haha.

What's the situation? Alpine D. sent me a custom tariff number this morning. Is it because they knew from experience? If so, THANKS!

Waiting for the office to open at 9, then I'm flying over to pick it up.

This honestly feels like Christmas moring. Oh Em GEEE!!!!!

Yeah, they must of sent it to you because of the snag I hit. Hopefully this gets fixed today so it can get shipped to me before the company closes for the weekend.

With any luck, I can install it next weekend.

No. It comes with its own oil resivior and cooler. Plus, it doesn't use normal oil. It uses 'traction fluid', which I assume works similarly to how an automatic transmission works.

Gah, trust me I know. Stupid Customs held it for a couple days. If it gets here by Friday I'll have it installed over the weekend. If not, it'll be a bit longer due to Memorial Day the next weekend.

    newengland,
Good to see that you are making progress.
I had similar problems when i imported a Chinese mini jeep. Everybody wanted a little cash at the Port of Miami. DOT,EPA,Customs, warehouse, broker, etc. all added to the wad of paper when it was finally released to me. If there is a next time, I will hire a runner to do all the bs.

Anyway, it all worked out and she is at home here in WNC.

Sorry I haven't been on. My laptop took a crap.

It took me all day but I got it......but i had to pay 191 dollars in duty, 40 for fees and 50 for bonds. The whole point of having it shipped only to the airport was to save about 175 dollars so if you can do math, it turned out to be more and i wasted a day.
I want to kick someone from Alpine in the dick right now.
