Thinking about replacing my stock air filter on my 2006 Taco with a K&N filter kit system. Looking at the YouTube videos looks like there's two different kinds of a kits to put on. One kit looks like you take off part of the stock filter system but not the air box which seems to be like a half attempt to unobstructed the air flow. The other kit shows more complete taking down the stock system to show the air intake and throttle body. Then replace with the K N system.
Does anyone have ideas and advise on this modification? My shop Service Advisor says they are good but have to clean filter regularly to continue getting the high performance. I may even add a TRD Cat Back Exhaust System.

    Any input greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

Part # 57-9025 seems to be more basic mod.

You will get nothing from this, no performance gains, no MPG gains. Just noise noise noise, your truck already has a CAI from the factory that works just fine.

Only thing you gain is less filtration, and as stated earlier noise. I had one on my old truck and have no plans to ever use again.

I put the K&N drop in filter in my truck since I got it for free basically, yeah the noise didn't change whatsoever... also they do tend to let in more fine particulates than the factory paper filter so keep that in mind.

It will be loud as batshit above 2500rpm, but it wont screw up your maf sensor like the oiled k&n

As for the trd catback, what are u gaining?

Id throw a muffler on stock tubing unless your pushing serious hp.

Would it be worthwhile to replace a K&N intake and filter with an original type in order to get the best lifespan from my 2.7L truck? When I got the truck several years ago it had the K&N in it so it's been on there for 50K miles now.

OP, you mention "performance" in your first post, but you need to know that a high-flow intake will only benefit at full throttle and high RPM, and even then you will get maybe a few HP at the most, I don't care what the K&N box says. Very few non-racing vehicles spend much time wide open at high RPM. The rest of the time you're driving normally (probably about 90% of the time), the major limiter for intake flow will be the throttle valve, not the air filter.
Most practical people realize these aftermarket intakes are not really worth the cost. Do whatever you want, it's your truck and your money, I just wanted to make sure you knew :D
