So I am hunting for the mold smell in my truck. After a week of sniffing I pull up the weathertech mats from the floor and a small half dollar size amount of water under the gas pedal area. I am guessing since the mats did not let the area breath it started to mold over and this caused the issue/smell. I have felt all around and searched for source. Does not seem to go up the center consol area so I’m guessing the bad guy is the floor vents. Anyone have issues with this ? I pulled the mats for now to try and get it dry. I’m running the ac now to try and duplicate the issue.

There are three vents under the dash. If this is the cause it must be the one all the way to the right.

Sad to say. I’m wrong. There is a leak. Pulled the carpet. Drivers floor is soaked. Any ideas

If you have a Roof Rack it might be leaking, you can also check the 3rd Brake Light as that is a known culprit

No on the roof rack. Point is Im not gonna own a car that is forever going to have mold in it. Its drenched inside. I am out the install on a very expensive stereo. Thankfully I put my money into the gear and not custom work. I can slam it in the next ride. I was in the positive on my last trade big so I wont loose out on much. What are the known issues on the 4 runners ? I remember reading that the tacoma was the best sales pitch for a 4runner and I hate to give the bed up. Truth is I got a black one and should have got a white one or similar. I have a few hangups on the truck but this leaking business has pushed me over.

I think 4R are pretty solid rigs, maybe a bit dated and a little more expensive.

You're not gonna at least take it in and see what they can do? Surely this is covered on warranty? No need to lose money over it

I’m gonna try and not panic ( though I already did). I will dry the truck out. I’m thinking it’s going to be the rear wall vents. They have small dry water marks around them. I will seal and see if I can end it there.

I would take it straight to the dealer like right NOW. Make it their problem... shouldn't be yours. Just my opinion though, good luck man!

Most issues 4runners had have been ironed out. I traded my Tacoma for my runner, it’s been pure joy. But, go drive one for yourself, see if you like it or not. I love mine, but your opinion may be different.

I am very very lucky that the Hummer I had before the Tacoma was paid off and worth so much. It mattered so much going into today. I pulled the stereo and bought a showroom deal. I got lucky no one helped me and I happened to flag down a manager (who was smoking a cigarette on the side of the building). I told him I was interested in a vehicle and asked if it was common practice to not help someone for 20 min. I caught him with his pants down. Toyota/Lexus takes those surveys very serious when it’s car buying time and I let him know I knew. I got a ton of freebies. I feel very good about my trade. It is dated a bit inside but nothing I will die over. Outside it’s the devil. In a good way.

They gave me a choice to keep these wheels or pick any other. Also they added the steps in on the deal. I decided if I don’t need I could always pull off.
