Check engine and LSD dash lights on

So a couple days ago I was backing out of a parking spot (wheels at full right turn) and I notice the truck feels like it's gonna stall and kind of studders a little. When I put it in drive to go forward I realize the check engine light and auto LSD light are lit up on the dash. I tried the VSC off button, tried turning off the engine and removing the key, tried holding the VSC button down. Read the manual which said not to drive with auto LSD on all the time. It's only supposed to come on when it senses a wheel slipping. I've seen it come on before and beep at me then it goes off right away when the wheels grip again.

Truck is an '09 TRD sport 4x4 with 21k miles. Anyway, I was going to take it to the dealer yesterday but sunday night I decided to try something first. I figured its the computer that's screwed up so I disconnected the battery in hopes that it would reset the computer. Left the battery disconnected for about 5 minutes then reconnected and started the truck. Check engine and auto LSD lights were no longer lit. I guess it worked cause its two days later and no problems.

So anyone have any idea what may have caused the error in the first place or if I should be concerned and have it checked out?

 

It's an 09....Take it to the dealer for the warranty coverage if it happens again. Might just had some weird surface there that confused the computer. Check you tire inflation and stuff.
But if the battery disco "fixed" it and you haven't had issues again....I wouldn't worry too much.

 

I just had the same lights come on but it was a day after I changed out the HU. The truck runs fine and only has 400 miles on it. It didn't do it the day I installed the HU but I thought I screwed up something. Though I did disconnect the battery a couple times during the install. I'm going to try what you did and see if that works.

Update: I pulled the neg cable for a few minutes and after reattaching the lights went out. It did stall afterstart-up which makes me wonder but it started right up again. I'll see what happens. Hopefully that works.

 

Can't say this holds true for all Toyota's however I had the Check Engine and VSC lights come on at the same time in my 04 Sienna. I checked the code with my Scangauge and it said that a cat had gone bad. I thought WTF then why is the VSC light on as well. When I took it to the dealer they said that when the Check Engine light comes on the VSC also comes on no matter what and that if the VSC had problems then only the VSC light would come on and stay on.

Might want to check the code history on the truck (although you reset the computer) to see what code it threw just to be on the safe side. You may be tearing up something or run into a situation where something doesn't work simply because you reset the computer. FYI on my Sienna the dealer had to order the part but reset the code to turn off the light since it was already diagnosed. It never came back on for the week I had to wait for the part althogh the cat was still bad.

 

I feel better that I don't think it has to do with the HU install. Though I don't want to cover up a problem.

If there is something wrong, it will light up again and I'll have the dealership check it since it is under warranty.

Well they came on again today again when I again got 5 miles from the house. When I turned the truck on though I heard the power antenna clicking for three intervals.

I installed the power antenna with the HU and put it on the same circuit but I incorrectly wired it to ACC instead of constant hot. It has been stuck in the up position since the HU install and I was going to rewire it this weekend.

I was worried that the antenna motor was going to burn out after hearing the clicking so I cut the power to it when I got home. As an experiment, I reset the computer again and after driving it farther now the warning lights aren't going on.

Is it possible that because maybe the antenna motor was drawing continuous power off the ACC line, it was somehow affecting the computer or system? It sounds wierd but it seems to have taken care of the problem. It kind of makes sense that something from the install caused this since the lights came on the day after. Though I'm still keeping my fingers crossed.

 

The lights came back on again Friday so I dragged my butt down to the dealership and they hooked up their scanner. Turns out it was the speed sensor wire that caused the lights to come on.

It's probably from me tapping into it for the navigation system in the HU. Though once they reset it, it hasn't come on again. Everyone else who posted tapping into the same wire had no problems. Must have set something off but everything's okay now.
