    You're right, doesn't say GL4.

Just says "buy only Toyota's special sauce for transfer case"

I just want to say thanks. I swapped the transmission and diff fluids this morning. The OP was helpful with all the info in one spot.

    A couple notes.

I forgot to mention that there was pressure in the rear diff when I removed the fill plug. I believe it was a vacuum. I heard a rush of air when the plug came off. That has me motivated to relocate the breather. I had the nipple and just ordered the vent. I hope to get that wrapped up this week.

I also ordered the Ravenol T case fluid.

Finally, after a nice drive today, I think the transmission feels slightly better. But, that could be due to the fresh fluid? It seems to drop into first when rolling to a stop sign and such a bit better.

Went to my Toyota dealer to get the actual Toyota rear diff fluid instead of a substitute. Dealer parts guy said "Will have to order it, we don't use it".
I asked well what do you use ?!
Pointed over to the rack with Lucas product on it OP referenced ! $15 bucks each !:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Read my post above about dealer using Amsoil and not even stocking Toyota brand.
    Amazing.

Called to order TRANSFER GEAR OIL from multiple dealers. Was told they dont stock or use Toyota 75w for transfer oil change. They said they have barrels of oil for the differentials that they use for the transfer.

This tends to be typical. The difference is if a Toyota dealer does the service, Toyota won’t question you about it on a claim (who knows if they’d even check the fluid). If you did the service, you can bet the use of incorrect fluid would come into play.

    Agreed.

I've logged my fluid changes on the service history page including the oils / part numbers used. Since I bought everything from Amazon so far, I have all the order history to back that up. Cut and pasting takes no time and will at least be legible compare to my shatty hand writing.

Anyone know the exact amount to put in the rear diff of an 18 Taco Access Cab Auto Trans? It's #GRN305L-CRTSHA but I can't find it in the manual and my drive way isn't that level. Thanks!

So, I changed the T case fluid with Ravenol. A few notes:

I didn't look closely, but I thought it was a quart. It is actually the full liter that we need. It was filled perfectly.

The bottle is odd. I've used ones like Pentosin that had an integrated spout. This has a spout and a straw. I was able to fill the T case without a pump.

The fluid in the case was in great shape. Much fresher looking than the transmission or diffs.

In the end, it's done for a long while.

Also, I kinda like the smell of oil and lube, even gear oil, but dang. That stuff has a stench to it.

Just fill it till the oil is close to the bottom of the fill hole. If you fill it till a small amount dribbles out, that’s ok.

The 2016 and 17 OR take 4.2 quarts.

Cool just ordered 3l. Have my Tacoma and a 4Runner to do. On the bottle it states it is a replacement for Toyota’s 75W transfer oil. Thanks!

Does anyone have recommendations for a better hand pump than the Plews that isn't bank breaking? I'm amazed I can't find one that you squeeze instead of pump like a soap bottle...

The Plews one worked fine for me. Yeah, it was a lot of pumping though. Since I bought gallon sizes of the diff lube, I had to keep refilling the MT lube quart bottles. Oh well, it was good exercise. :D

One thing that you could do, is get some small diameter tube from Lowes / HD and drill two holes in the bottle cap. Fish one tube down to the bottom and in the other use a compressor line set to a really low pressure (like 1psi) and gently throttle in the lube. You don't want a lot of pressure, esp in a burst or the bottle might pop. I thought of this after I finished up.

You could also use a MityVac to do the same thing. They can pump and suck.

Got the goods. Shows it is a replacement for Toyota 75w transfer gear oil.

    $15 a Liter on Amazon.

    Thanks!
