Hi all. I have a 2016 TRD Sport that I tow my boat a lot with during the summer. The stock suspension was hitting the bump stops frequently so I decided to get the softer set of sumo springs for the rear end.

They said they wouldn't effect the everyday driveability of the truck but that's just not true. Every time the rear end hits a bump it's like there's a solid bar for the leaf springs and no shock whatsoever. I'm taking them out as soon as I have an alternative.

Does the firestone 2407 kit effect the rear suspension the same way when the pressure is low? I like the stock feel of the truck when I'm driving to work every day, but need a little extra spring when I tow my boat.

Which Sumo springs do you have? 610 series 2nd Gen are 5" tall, and newer design 3rd Gen are 612 series 4" tall so they don't touch frame unloaded.

I bought these. They are the 610 series that their site recommended for the 2016+ truck.

That's what I'm thinking right now too, I just don't want to instantly regret putting them in like I did with the sumos

I had bags installed on my 2011, with the daystar cradles and the only time i noticed them was going over speedbumps, they would "clap" the cradles. If you mount them like firestone suggests (connected at top and bottom) they will not clap. When i choose to re-install on my 2017 i will likely add some rubber so they don't clap over bumps because i like the safety factor of the cradles.

Good point. If OP doesn't wheel his truck though, cradles are overkill.

You may also consider the possibility of adjusting the position of the axle on your boat trailer (forward) to reduce tongue weight. When I replaced my trailer I did this (although I moved back it to increase tongue weight). Just make sure you don't have too little or negative tongue weight, things will get dangerous and scary on the highway.

That's odd. I bought them about a year ago so I don't fully remember. I was on their site and they had the black or blue elastomer option, but not different sizes.

Maybe I was only looking on Amazon?

I have a 24' pontoon boat that had an undersized engine (50HP), we just put a 125 on it so it should be a little better balanced. If I can remember I think the tongue weight was something like 300lbs. Not great, but not overloaded. Put 4 people in the truck and the rear just sits on the bumps.

I'll send them an email, but I purchased (and have been stubborn and unhappy with...) these since august of last year.

    Oh well, Can't hurt!

I went through the same process as you, OP. I wanted better hauling capacity and went with the timbren bump option, but ended up hating the same things about the result as you do. I wheel more than you do, but read enough things about the cradle/airbag setup that I ended up deciding to upgrade the leaf pack instead. I ride firmer and with more rake than before, but I have no problems with that. Sounds like you made the smart choice for your application!

Thanks for the input! Yeah, my truck rarely sees off road use and I daily drive it on the highway 5 days a week so I need a comfy ride, but the air bags should feel like nothing when they are aired down and should work very well for the trailer when aired up!

Now to figure out if I want to get an onboard compressor or not...

I have Airlift 72000 and would do it again. Adjust to perfect height for any load or trailer. Perfect ride. Love it.
Messing with leafs gives harsher ride.

Now the real question. Does anyone know the size of the OEM u bolts for the rear axle? I think I have the part number

    90117-A0005

But I feel like spending $27 on each U bolt is a little ridiculous... Anyone know of a replacement that is the same size as the OEM U bolt?

Just realize that to install the air bags you have to cut the factory bump stops off. The bags do not have bumpstops inside them. Also you loose about an inch or more of up travel. Your rear end will still bottom out on the bags with low air pressure. I have never found a comfortable air pressure. Good luck.
