If your ride height is correct then you need to revalve your shocks. Springs control ride height, valving controls movement

That's actually something I was wondering regarding ride height, I have them adjusted to provide 2" of lift right now but wondering if that amount of preload is hurting the performance. Originally, I had them at nearly 3" lift but the ride was so obviously bad that I took them down some (also for the sake of my CVs). Riding better since then but wondering if it's still not ideal, and maybe I should swap the springs out for the right length ones rather than relying on adjusting the coilovers.

I really don't have any added weight up front other than a 3/16" steel skid so it seems odd that these Kings wouldn't perform well out of the box for me unless I put too much preload on them. They do feel great going fast over bumps but I do feel that hard, concussive THUD if it's a substantial one (nothing too crazy I know there are limits)

how many miles are on them? I have the same shocks with a little less lift but still. Rides great. You might be do for a rebuild or have you check the pressure in them recently?

They're pretty much new still, minus the trips they've got under their belt recently. But I got them about 6 months ago brand new. Maybe 12k miles on them now I think

I'll have to check closely again but I kept a close eye in them and my rear icons on last week's trip and they looked good, the Kings didn't even heat up that much (Icon 2.0s got hot at some points).

I might try to lessen the preload even more and see what that does. Might be a combination of that and maybe I'm just expecting a bit too much from a mid travel kit lol. I do want to upgrade the front bumps though regardless, seems according to your link yesterday that making the Wheelers rear Superbumps fit up front takes a little fabrication but nothing I cant handle. I've also read that people have used the 2nd gen front Superbumps on the front of their 1st gens.

I used the front superbumps up there not the rears. They are different compounds though I can't remember which is softer..

You can get a lot out of a mid travel setup. Just need to put the time and effort into tuning the valving.

    This!

My icons after a full rebuild and revalve are exactly what I've always wanted from the front. @eon_blue maybe a trip to DMS or King is in your future for a little tweak.

So this happened over the weekend at a local trail here in SoCal (Rowher Flats)

I'm guessing cheap/wrong size U-bolts and/or not properly torqued to spec?

saw the recovery video. Bunch of asshats during that whole thing. You could obviously tell the axle wasn't attached anymore and like10 people just sat there and filmed it instead of stopping it and inspecting it.

Bunch of novice people involved from the looks of it.

Yeah I saw the video, they were a pretty dull bunch of guys so it would surprise me if all that was loose were the ubolts. One half wit was using the winch line to tow it at one point with only a used hankercheif over the steel cable. So many things wrong maybe this was for the best.

I've met one of the guys on that trail before about 8 months ago, I was headed out to that trail to do it solo with my fiancé and we tagged along with their group. I had to turn my radio off 20 minutes into the run because they were so obnoxious and annoying. Fortunately nothing like this happened that day but with the way they treated their rigs (relative to how they were built) I'm not surprised to see that this happened

That what happened when young car buyers decide on their first truck. They pick Toyota because it's not too big for them and they heard all about how great Toyota used to be and think that it still is. Little do they know Toyota America is just riding the coattails of the legendary Toyota of the past. Then they go out and do dumb shit unsupervised. Lol fucking turd gen

haha I bet. I'm a little slow on my IG game but I've seen it all over FB now, too.

It's unfortunate because stuff like this happens a lot out on that trail (Rowher Flats), it local to a big populated area so it attracts all kinds of people that have no business being there. It's a fun trail though but the gates have been closed a lot lately probably due to shit like this. I get that stuff happens but it's been happening regularly out there lately
