In case this has not been mentioned switching between dead dino and syn look on the store shelves you will find blended oil . It has both..so that ends the controversy that you can't mix dino and syn.
My personal choice is Pennzoil plat 5-30 in my 4 lt.Tacoma and my Turbo Volvo XC90 5 cyl. and my Honda generator and lawnmower. Also 15-50 Mobil 1 in my Moto Guzzi motorcycle. Mobil 1 75-90 gear oil in my Tacoma diffs and trans case.
As a side note I had over 350000 miles on one of my motorcycle in fact all of my bikes had at least 200000 miles using just syn oil etc.
It's a your call but start with a blended oil and go from there

I switched to synthetic at 120k miles and no problems. You can switch between conventional and synthetic anytime, it's not a problem, just don't use conventional oil in an engine that calls for synthetic.
If your engine is being serviced regularly, there is no risk of gunking up anything. I have never heard of any incompatibility between conventional and synthetic motor oils, even mixing different brands and different weights of oil. Again, just change the oil and filter regularly, it will run a very long time.

The jug of Mobil 1 they sell at Wal-Mart is 5 quarts, not 1 gallon.

EDIT: right now Mobil 1 is doing their annual rebate. $12 rebate on a 5-quart jug, 2 rebates per household. WalMart online price is $23.99 and after taxes that is $14 a jug, nearly impossible to beat that price. Do a web search and you'll find the rebate.

As the first commenter on that article points out the oil change is being done somewhere around 4k. Increase that to 10k and look at the results. If you want to keep your changes around 4k, use any oil.

I switched to Mobil 1 around 100k miles and never looked back. I change the oil about 8k and an OEM filter half way in between. Benefits of synthetic aside, it's worth it to me to only change the oil twice a year instead of 4 times.

My last truck I just use conventional oil and changed every 5000 miles and had no problems. Since I joined TW, I now use synthetic and change every 5000 miles and still have no problems. To me the only difference is I don’t have as much money in my wallet after joining TW.

    Same as everybody else...
A common problem not related at all to oil type. All kidding aside I think the money I've saved by doing much of my own maintenance, thanks to TW, helps me pay for the small mods I've done to my truck
