    What sleeve is that?

Is it a clamp around the leafs? Without looking outside at mine - you don't necessarily wanna take it off. They help keep the leafs 'alligned' straight.

The only thing I can think of....is opening them up into a "U" shape. This will keep the leafs alligned but still allow them to fan out.

Is that what you're looking for? The leaves to fan out for more suspension travel?

yes i need to take it off because have to go get another one from a junk yard and u have to take your own tools and take it off yourself. i looked at mine that i have on my leaf pack and i cannot figure out how to get it off.
how can u open the sleeve? there is a dot or pin tab in the middle of them.

    Exactly what chris4x4 said... grinding.

Once you grind it off the junkyard rig - how are you gonna install it on your rig?
What's wrong with the ones you have on now?

Do you have a local spring/driveshaft shop? They'll have some there and can probably remove/install them in a 1/4 the time and maybe cost of you doing it yourself.

ok i am missing one. all i wanna know is how im going to get one off to put one on. do i need to give a history. the truck was missing one when i bought it. but that is not the pertinant thing here,
that is exactly what im wondering, how to get it off, then how to install it,. i was figuring once i figured out how to get it off, i would learn how to put it on during that process. and why the heck would i grind it off, if i need to use it again? wont that damage it?
yea there is a spring shop here, but im not going to go pay them when , if i can do it and how the heck am i gonna get them to come to the junk yard with me and take one off another tacoma??? they dont do that sorta work.
So.....again, does anyone know the trick to getting one off(properly without cuttin it in half) to install onto another tacoma?
see toyota only sells each leaf pack and the sleeves come with the leaf pack and are not sold seperatly, which is about 500 bucks per leaf pack. JOKE! So my only option is going to the junkyard and takin one off and putting it onto mine.
is this better and more detailed? its ok if u dont know, but dont go tellin me to cut it in half. that is silly. if someone knows i would very much appreciate it .

Yeah, you're being detailed. But you're not understanding what we are trying to tell you.

THey're not easy to get off and not easy to get on.

Those clamps use some sort of PEG that is PRESSED into the bottom leaf.

If you look at the bottom of one - you'll probably see a rounded cap (so to speak). There are two ways of getting that apart...

    1) Grind off the rounded head until you can pop the clamp off. You'll have to buy a new peg to install on your truck.
    OR
    2) Take the leaf pak apart completely separating the leafs individually and pop the peg out from the topside of the leaf spring.

OR - go to your local spring shop and buy a clamp. They're cheap ($5 maybe), and they simply wrap around the leafs. No cutting, drilling, etc.
The downside to those, is they rust and will need replaced again after a couple years.

yea see , i have one of those clamp things, and it is rusted to hell. ok so this is not an easy thing to get that peg out? hmm, ok so im guessin at a spring shop, they take the whole thing apart and then beat that peg out from the top so they can resuse it again? ok if i could just get one off without damaging it then let the spring shop put it on when they add a leaf. i mean couldnt i stick a flat head under the peg and pop it off that way? grinding cant be the only way here. it just doesnt make sense for them to make it like that and have to replace the peg each time. and how does that peg stay in being upside down? and where would i get another peg?

I don't know the exact details on the pegs - if yours has pegs. Some vehicles are different but most that I've seen have pegs (for a lack of a better term).

Did you look at your other ones? What do they look like?

The peg would have a larger rounded head that you see on the outside. And it would be a smaller diameter under that. Hence, why we mentioned grinding the head off.

Chances are - the spring shop would probably just toss the old clamps if they had to remove them. They'd install their own clamps that were larger to accomodate the AAL. But, I'm just guessing based on when I had work done on my 96.

Why not give the spring shop a call and talk to one of their techs. Perhaps you should wait until you have them make you an AAL and they'll take care of the clamp situation for you.

i already had them re arch them and they are the ones that added that weak clamp that is now rusted to hell.
yea man, the sleeves that i have on there, have a peg in the middle underside, exactly as u describe. there has got to be a way to get it out and remove the sleeve besides grinding. i mean is this what toyota would do if i took it to them and paid them crazy amounts of money ? for some reason i just dont think so. if i broke it off, then where would i get another peg? i mean even if u break the top off, then how u gonna get the rest of the peg out of that hole?

You can try to pry underneath the head/edge of it, just be careful not to damage the spring. Good Luck though... those things are tightly pressed in. And the rust factor makes it all that much more difficult.

I don't know what the metal is made of or else I'd tell you to try and drill it out. That might be a loosing battle....

Or take the entire leaf pak apart and take it out from the upper side of the leaf spring. A bit labor intensive.

Once you pop that sucker out - the shape/size might be contorted (so to speak) and that tight press fit might not be AS tight in another set of leafs.

yea its all to much for a little tab sounds like. i dunno what to do. im not gonna take the whole leaf pack out and apart. my health is not good enough to do all that. ok if i did get one out off of one in the junk yard, then where would i get another tab/peg because im sure it would not fit tight again like u say?
