Believe me I thought of that, and to be sure I tried a few pulls uphill in 6th where before I could accelerate easily. I rolled into the gas in 6th, and the truck would just maintain speed (if that). It just didn't have it, even WOT. The thing is though, other ECUs may not have this problem.

My biggest issue with the truck is that it struggles in the hills to maintain speed. As far as the other issues people report with the stock tune, I don't notice them at all but maybe I just don't drive my truck enough.

It'd be nice to get something a little more finalized/works equally across the board. Seems like once an issue is fixed another pops up. Hopefully, this last revision nails it for most.

Through experience with all the iterations of the tune I've run, testing, logging, listening to others' feedback and following Mat's thoughts I've come to a conclusion - and you're not going to like it:

There seems to be a lot of variance in these trucks that cause them to behave quite differently from one another. We've seen two identical trucks running the same fuel, ECU and tune file act like polar opposites. I'm not talking about subtle differences either. Stutters, hesitations, throttle weirdness etc etc. I agree, it seems Mat gets one thing fixed say on my truck, but that fucks over someone else.
And then there's that guy @mZiggy with his honey badger Pro. It doesn't seem to give a shit what file is loaded, just runs great.
Now you might ask, how come these things weren't as ass-clowney on the OEM calibration - my spitball on that is Toyota dumbed/numbed it down enough to glass over most of it.
TL;DR version - I don't know if it's possible to fix everything with a single release given the apparent variance. Perhaps that was the reason Mat was saying this new file was for ppl having issues with 1.03B/C.

Sounds like we finally found the reason why we should be buying the pros. It runs like it should and all the others are uppity. BRB going to trade in for a pro.

I believe mziggy dude sent some logs (87 tune) to Matt, I wonder if Matt saw things in his log that he just doesn't notice while driving. I also have been thinking about the following: It seems that the truck stock has some of these issues (stutters etc.) Is it possible that the tune actually is a tad too aggressive stock (timing?) that if you get even the slightest shit tank of gas you experience this. Others have stated they have noticed a big difference in the truck just running 89 or 91 with the stock tune. Now when Matt tuned the truck to make more power (pull more timing?) on 91 it may be a similar situation. Depending on gas, climate etc. some have issues some don't. It seems like your test file is almost de-tuned (91 file), I believe you even posted that you logged it and saw less timing pulled which now is running smoothly but down on power. Simple concept but just a thought, if this has already been brought up I've missed it.

I think part of the issue is this truck is far more particular about fuel than the previous generation. On the stock tune on both my 16 auto and current 17 MT I noticed some major changes in drivability depending on what kind of fuel you put in and where from. There were a few tanks of fuel it was total crap. My 2005 didn't care what you put in, it was the same no matter what you used.

I actually did have stutters on the stock tune, but they were far less noticeable and only seemed to happen below ~1800 rpm under moderate load. Running 91E0 helped, but didn't get rid of them.
Then came 1.01B.... ahhh old faithful. No stutters, and a juicy little midrange bump in torque. Honestly I'd rather run that file than 1.03B/C.

When I was referring to the truck "pulling timing" I meant that it was backing off ignition, resulting in less power. More ignition timing (with the correct fuel) should equal more power. It surely looked to me like a de-tuned 91 file when comparing the ignition timing and KC values I was seeing before, but I'm not the expert. Again, power was not the focus of the testing we were doing at the time and the T2 file is not the official release. The way Mat does things is very methodical, he likes to straighten out one issue at a time.

Went to 103B today (91oct), I don't know where people come up with that the throttle is to sensitive lol They shouldn't drive a sports car, if anything I wouldn't mind if the throttle was more sensitive on it. Well the power difference is definitely noticeable over stock and 103C. The clunk is even less then 103c too, so that's great. My only complaint right now is previously on my initial impression, I complained about the "grind" noise when just tapping the throttle from a stop. It's actually more a scrapping noise then anything. Still present on 103B and at around 2500rpm when accelerating it comes back again. Very faint but there nonetheless. Wondering if something is rattling? I know I have the issue when making left off camber turn over a speed bump or incline (driveways etc) I sometimes get a grinding/scrapping noise. I can even feel it in the gas peddle sometimes. Dealer couldn't replicate it obviously but I wondering if this is related to it. Interesting, anybody's else taco do the same thing?

Regarding the throttle, try this - sitting at idle in neutral, slowly tip into the gas and see if you can bring the rpm up under control all the way to say 1500. No jumps, no spikes.
I'm not doubting your assessment, I just want to know how your '18 reacts to this scenario.

@MOC221_ I feel like Mat's update in the alpha thread was a very polite and wordy way of saying everyone is acting like damn children

He's got the patience of a saint, but if you read that post a couple of times you can feel the frustration in it. Loved the recognition for the early adopters, nail on the head with that. Props to them.

Yep, nice touch reminding people that a lot of community effort has gone into the development. I'm certainly grateful, I ordered my tune back in December and received in January, when the M/T 1.03 was already released

Honestly I think the only reason he keeps coming back here is for the people that are ready and willing to throw free data at him basically without having to ask for it. Not to mention from all different ECU versions, regions of the country, and terrain. That kind of R&D isn't cheap. We all do it for the love of our trucks and to make this tune as good as it can possibly be.
