Is it still considered locked up if the axle is disconnected from the truck though?

Yeah... No. That truck is in gear or he's riding the brakes. I've been wheeling rigs in Alaska for a long time. I've run front and rear fully locked. On top of that, I was a recovery operator in the Army. I've done some serious winching and tricky recoveries.

My truck is on jackstands right now with no axle attached to the leaf springs, but still an attached driveshaft. So yes.

I'm curious who was actually doing the pulling, the taco or the FJ? Almost looks like the taco was pulling the FJ uphill and the FJ got away and took the taco with it.

My point was to try not to armchair quarterback things based on one video and perspective. You nor me can see the other side of the truck and what's going on. None of us were there.

It doesn't take God's gift to offroad drivers to know to stop when the wheels aren't turning.
Set the park brake, chock it, tie it off, and remove the damn driveshafts.

I’ve seen it happen once before. Guy what trying to get up a hill and would roll back then gas it. The u joint finally said fuck it and let loose. He ended up driving home in a FWD Tacoma

If the u-bolts were loose, missing or whatever the case was. It could've been a simple trail repair by borrowing/using u-bolts from the other tacos that were there. Or even send someone to NAPA for new ones. Ive seen ratchets straps, duct tape and bailing wire used as a trail fix in this exact situation plenty of times at The Hammers over the years and it held up plenty fine to get off the trail. Everyone there failed and all that could have been prevented.

Been there, done that. That's when it's nice to have a full floater. Pull the axle shafts and go home in FWD
