I wonder if there are Russians watching it now wondering what kind of idiots we are...while drinking vodka and crashing their Ladas into bridges.

That video shouldn't even exist. Axel should have been secured with ratchet straps. Improper use of a winch. Probably should have pulled the truck forward rather than back so that it wouldn't put pressure on the driveshaft. But yeah, when the wheels are pressed against the fender, you stop.

Thanks for posting the video. I was glad to help and have the added weight on the back of my truck which helped with traction. I habe those tow straps from last year when hurricane Harvey swept through. I did something stupid by venturing out on my own with no recovery gear and crappy tires and ended up having to get towed out of a bad spot. I was so far down a muddy trail the tow truck wouldn't go further in fear he would get stuck too so we had to goto Walmart and buy any tow straps we could find.

A closed shackle is much stronger and less of a risk snapping. In fact having multiple straps with the hooks did fall off when the tow truck began to winch me out. This latest tow is a good reason to invest in better gear.

Here is how I was stuck. It was stupid and would never do that again without proper gear.

Haha my favorite part in that video is the crunch sound and the guy saying "fuuuccck". Yeah at that point STOP or tell them to STOP.

Daaaaaamn.... Yeah sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. I've been on both sides of a recovery multiple times, and seen other people use chains because that's all they've had. Seen them break and break windshields. My first strap was a $5 special from ROSS of all places.... Kind of glad I lost it because it probably would have caused more damage had I ever needed to use it.

Since then I've picked up a Smittybilt, and two ARB which I absolutely love and have used multiple times at the beach to recover plenty of other vehicles. Boss even used one of my ARB to recover a massive truck that was delivering roof trusses to one of our jobsites after he got stuck in mud.... While still loaded. Wish I had that video.

I carry 2 straps with me in an old Jansport backpack along with 3 shackles everywhere I go. Just in case. Not a fan of leaving shackles attached to a vehicle either, they like to loosen up when you least expect it.

Yeah, I can testify to that. I lost one the first time I hit dirt roads. I even had wire with me to mouse them that night but it fell off before I got the chance.
