I have a 2wd '01 reg. Cab 4 cyl. I want better performance off road and am interested in lockers or even limited slip. Haven't done much research yet.. How much work is involved in each? And what brands or types would work best? Anyone done this to their tacoma already? Replies are much appreciated

Mine already has the diff locker so I don't know about installation but if I didn't have it, I would def. go w/ a locker for offroad, I wouldn't go offroad w/o it if your 2WD like me. From what I've seen, I would get the ARB air locker.

ARB Air Lockers are the shit...but pricey

You should get a full time so you can engage it when you want...LSD is worthless IMO

They require special tools to install, and if you aren't wrench savvy (read "very good") I would recommend getting them done by an expert.

    1. Limited Slip: Eaton/Detroit True Trac is your best option. No clutch plates to wear out (worm gear driven). uses regular diff oil. ~$500 (unit only)

    2. Drop in "lunch box" locker: Aussie, Lock-rite. Both proven traction devices but will break easier and they click or bang around turns. Powertrax No Slip also an option. ~$250-$350

    3. Full Locker: Auto (Detroit Locker) or Selectable (ARB). Both are expensive and the ARB needs a compressor to run it. The Detroit will click and bang on road, while the ARB will make no noise. ~$750-$850

Do a search on each of these for more info. I have ARBs in my jeep and they are amazing, and I will most likely get a True Trac for my truck.

Depends on the unit. Have you driven non-factory LSDs?
