Looks like a poorly drilled depth adjustment for a tire carrier

Good question. According to Wheeler's website, their u bolts are Grade 5 with a zinc plating, 1/2" diameter. My guess is they are rolled threads, but I didn't think anyone made Grade 5 u bolts - I think I'd put those in the "throw away" category.
I have Ruffstuff U bolts from their Chevy 63 kit, they are Grade 8, 5/8" diameter. Much beef.

Can't speak to the grade of the Alcan u-bolts, but they recommend single use (circling was them, not me). Here's the sheet I got with my leaf pack, and new u-bolts. I ended up getting 9/16" u-bolts, noticeably beefier than stock, and haven't had any stretching (that I can tell; they maintain torque) yet.

I like their quote "reusing old u-bolts is penny wise and pound foolish."

I'm sure it is best practice to replace them, especially for a company like Alcan to say in their instructions for any old person who is using their springs. Liability reasons and all that.

The guy on Donut media is likable enough but whomever is managing their online presence can fuck themselves raw with a cactus. They just blast the shit out of message boards and subreddits with advertising. Most of their accounts are banned now which is good though.

Did you find a nice one here? Wouldn't be too crazy to pick it up and shove it on a fastenal truck, they're right down the street from me.

part of me wants to keep it as I've always wanted one and it is just cool. But part of me does not want it on the little truck anymore and wants other truck parts..
