I seriously just woke from a dystopian nightmare where this kid was discovering he was being used as a pawn in a game much larger than he realized.

I will say, Sig is not a bad choice. But if I was to buy any 1911 in the $700 class it would by far be a Springfield Armory 1911 range officer. I have shot many competition, simi competition, and over the counter 1911‘s, and it definitely stands apart, especially in it price class. The only gripe I would give the range officer is because they wanted to keep cost down and still give you a competition level 1911, is the front stippling on the grip. I wish for a couple more dollars they would have done that so I didn’t have to. That’s my only gripe about it.

Have you ever shot the range officer elite compact? I’m 9mm?

I don’t really know much about 1911s . would that be a good starter 1911?

I have never shot the elite itself, but being a 9 mm, It would be really nice for recoil management. 1911‘s are already known for good recoil management in the 45 because the guns so heavy, so 9 mm is just a bonus! As far as which one is right for you, that is definitely a personal decision between compact(3.3”-3.5”), service duty(4”), in full length(5”). I guess what you were going to use it for would help dictate what you wanted and needed. But obviously the heavier the gun, the more manageable it will be.

If you are Undecided , I would seek out a Shooting range where you can rent different 1911‘s and get a real world feel for what suits you

I don't understand it, personally. I love the 1911; striker-fired poly pistols are nice, but to me they're nice in the way that toaster is nice. Functional, but nothing special. But a well-done 1911 is a work of art.

You’re not alone. Obviously the 1911 is a military based creation. In my experience I have seen that most people think they have to own one because everybody else has one. Understand, at no point am I ever talking smack about the great history the 1911 holds,But for me in a full-size gun, I would take my HK USP over anything!

Totally agree, but in today’s practicality, would you rather have 7 rounds or 17 rounds. To me it seems like a no-brainer. Yes you will always have your art guns, but most guns serve a purpose, and not as art.

My EDC only holds 7-8 rounds. But, it's a striker-fired poly pistol, lol. But, my 1911 does duty pretty regularly as a bed stand gun, and I've never felt like it was low on capacity. Big mags are nice for plinking or target shooting, but I don't think they're strictly necessary for an EDC unless you live in a war zone and need to lay down covering fire, lol. Unless I had a basketball team break into my house, the 8+1 that a 1911 holds would probably be more than sufficient.

But, To each their own, obviously. I've got my share of high-capacity pistols, too. :notsure:

I’m sure your EDC is smaller form factor than a 1911 though...

1911’s shoot well and are classic but from a work/duty pistol standpoint I don’t see a reason to use one.

I hear what you’re saying, but here’s the key difference. Just like load capacity on a generator, you never want to run it in 100%. In other words in a 7 round magazine you should never really keep me more than 4 or 5 rounds in a mag over a long duration of time or you will despring the springs where as in a 17 round gun you put 12 rounds in and you’re good to go for a long duration of time like a bedside gun would be in the condition of

The moral of the story for all, you should never fully load any magazine and have it set for a long period of time. Or it will despring the spring and in turn cous feeding issues down the line like when you least want it to, like when you go to use it after sitting for a long time on your night stand! o_O

It is; a S&W Shield. It also shoots smaller rounds, but for the love of god let's not spark a '9mm vs .45' debate

Not really an accurate comparison; running a generator at 100% shortens its lifespan considerably. Running 8 rounds down the pipe instead of 5 doesn't really make much of a difference to the gun; they all fire exactly the same. As for mag springs, it's not something I worry about. They take a long time to wear out, I shoot the gun regularly so I'll notice if one is getting weak, and the price of a mag spring is less than half of a 50 round box of ammo.

But like I said, to each their own.

I could be wrong but I don't believe spring fatigue is an issue with modern magazines. I never had a problem with any of mine.

It's really not. Modern spring steel doesn't wear out from being compressed; it wears out from duty cycles (loading and unloading, either via firing the gun or just thumbing the rounds out).

I've been tempted to use my boyfriend's 1911 for the ring concealed carry test because it's so big and heavy, but I think I'm going to end up using a g21
