Like the title said a drunk driver day drinking on a Sunday rear-ended my pregnant wife and I. We are all still here thankfully. Some rough measurements show the passenger side frame rail is crinkled almost 2" and the driver's side almost 1". The bed is cracked and lifted in the front passenger side, bed was pushed into the cab slightly, exhaust was pushed forward, and the whole back half of the truck is tweaked up and to the driver's side. I was wondering if anyone had any auto body experience and can guess if the truck will be totalled out or not.

    Glad everyone is physically ok.

My 2cents, not totaled, but really doubt anyone will know until they check the frame.

That really sucks to see, glad you and the wife are ok, I think damage has to exceed something like 70% of the value of the truck for them to total it.

total spitball I'd say $16-$20k worth of dammage which includes a new frame as per toyota specs you cannot straighten or repair the tacoma frame it must be replaced.

Rather that totals it or not I do not know how your insurance values that, I think its like 60% or more of value is considered totaled?? Not sure on that part but I think its gonna be close.

Glad both of you are safe. That drunk driver should be locked up if it was me to decide. Hope insurance will total it.

    Like, so many.
If the frame is bent, I'm leaning toward totalled.

Glad to see everyone is ok. I'm not an expert, so i cannot give my 2 cents on whether it is totaled or not, but Buddy of mine had a similar situation. Rear ended, and bent the chassis. Nobody was hurt, but the car was in the shop for about 2 months, and drove like new once all said and done. He had a 2nd gen, 8 years old. Hoping for the best.

The biggest thing is my wife is 6 months pregnant. That little truck saved my unborn little girls life. I am VERY VERY grateful and impressed with the engineering that went into this truck. We were slowing down to in intersection going about 25-30mph when he hit us around 60mph in the passenger side corner. I will absolutely be sticking will Toyota products from here on out.

Glad you and your wife are ok.

I feel like I'm saying this a lot (maybe there is an increase in these accident threads).

But definitely go and see a doctor, even if you feel ok.

IMO it won't be totaled, but then again it's hard to say just from photos (and I'm not a body shop expert or insurance adjuster).

The 3rd gen Toyota has some pretty impressive safety performance. Glad you are all ok.

Is this something new about the frame? I had a previous Tacoma with bad frame damage, the Insurance company had them put it on the Frame Machine which took 40 hours alone and it spent 48 days in paint, body, and suspension repair.

I'd want it totalled. A fender bender is one thing, but they smacked you pretty hard. I wouldnt want the truck back, but that's just me.

 glad you are ok! My pregnant wife of twins and I were rear ended at a stoplight in February, so i know how scary it is!
I was hit by an old woman in a new RAV4, and it her car was immobile, and i had some damage to bumper and a little to the tailgate was all. I drove us to the ER to get checked out afterwards.
Sorry about your truck. Must have hit you really hard! So glad no one was hurt! Hope you heal quickly and wish you and your wife a safe, healthy, and happy pregnancy!

I keep hearing this story, and from an industry professional standpoint, it’s just tough to comprehend.
Not discounting what you are saying, but I would love to see your paperwork.

Glad you are all safe. I say insurance will total it. Then you buy it back for $1500. Get your new truck and part the old one out to TW guys.

Glad you're okay and the pregnant wife! I got in a bad wreck shortly after my little guy got here and I was so grateful both of them weren't with me.

I'm not sure on totalling or not, but I'd imagine it will be close.
