@Torspd in your post above it sounds like you're saying OVTune indicated the maps in the TRD (Supercharger) reflashed ECU's have expanded maps for more RPM/Load columns in addition to a refined VVTi map. Did I read incorrectly?

I didn't realize this, but apparently Toyota put the single VVTi 1GR in the 2008 Tundra, and the dual VVTi 1GR in the 2011-2013 Tundra. This increased the fuel economy from 16mpg combined to 17mpg combined, while also increasing power and torque output. 1mpg is about a 6% increase in fuel economy, which is a pretty decent improvement, especially considering the additional power and torque.

So again, Toyota could have increased the fuel economy of the Tacoma. They just didn't.

Seriously? You think people don't want fuel efficient trucks or anything for that matter? If that's your thinking then why are electric vehicles and now transport trucks gaining popularity? Toyota as usual doesn't like change that's why they last so long because it's all proven. Don't get me wrong I love Toyota I just wish they'd put more time and effort into their North American market trucks.

My point exactly they don't feel the truck market wants fuel economy.

I want good economy... But if I have to choose between higher economy or a longer lasting (less stuff to go wrong) engine. I'll take the longer lasting engine.

The simpler the better, really don't want crap tons of extra computers and electronics that will just go bad

Riddle me this genius: If the market demands fuel economy why are people buying more SUV's/Pickup trucks with poor mpg and not sedans/electric vehicles with great mpg. Fuel efficent sedans are on death watch. The market doesnt give one shit about fuel economy when gas is below $3.

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
Torque and HP are affected, dual VVTI roller rocker 1gr has more of both. Toyota was being cheap.

Because you Americans are spoiled with cheap fuel. You guys also feel the need to have the biggest vehicle so you can intimidate other smaller vehicles on the road, ie hummer, suburban, escalade, etc. Once your gas goes over $4/gal which it will you'll see fuel economy ranked #1

Vehicles are too big, but 2-3 dollars a gallon is NOT cheap.

Yes it actually is very cheap. Google what Europe pays or Canada.

Obviously people do want better MPG. I do. Its what stopped me from buying another Sequioa. There is no reason a small or mid size truck should get worse MPG than my full size SUV and by a lot. As i mentioned, i have power and towing capability with my full size SUV that is far more than any tacoma, and get 4 mpg more on the hwy. Toyota should be able to do far better here. Put it this way, put my GM 5.3L motor in a tacoma with the 6 speed transmission and you would have a more powerful tacoma with better MPG. I doubt any of you guys would pass up a V8 in a midsize truck. And those that say the GM 5.3L is junk, well, its not.. the rest of the truck (electronics) may be, but the GM 5.3L has been around the block for many many years. its a solid motor.

If i drive 260 miles to my cabin on weekends, and i use 10.8 gallons to get their in my Tahoe, it will cost me $27.. if i get 19 mpg it will cost me $35. I get it, its not a terrible amount of money.. But i am also paying less for driving in a luxury SUV with far more room and capabilities. Toyota can do better. They should do better. They have been behind in the mpg war now on all their trucks/SUV's .

Just because what you guys pay is ridiculously higher does not mean that what we have is cheap.

That's like saying just because some homeless people in 3rd world countries have it significantly worse than homeless people in first world countries that they are just fine and should stop whining.. lol

However I guess you could say that this could be due to the quantity consumed, I'm pretty sure that even if the price was the same that Europe wouldn't really use as much because they don't need as much. No I'm not sure about Canada though.

I've had a pen pal in Sweden who told me that it only took him about 5 minutes to get to work on bicycle. Heck taking the fastest route possible and speeding a little bit it takes me 45 minutes everyday just to get there and then 45 minutes to get back. Everything here is more spread out where is everything in Europe is closer together I assume because of the landscape?

But I digress, just because it's expensive somewhere else does not mean that the lowest one is necessarily cheap. Yes you can say that is cheaper than the other one, but that is not automatically make it a good value.

Can you stop being so naive. A frigin midsized mass produced Tacoma is already 35-40K. Yeah lets add a V8 and bump the price up to 45K, but hey, we will get an extra 2mpg. Why not just add a V10 , I'm sure the market would be interested in it.

Its true, most auto manufacturers are afraid to bring sedans and sports coupes to market right now.

Our road are also getting shittier and shittier. I used to drive a pretty efficient VW, but the potholes were brutal and I ended up getting crushed by a tractor trailer because he couldn't see me.

    Now I drive a car he'll see.
