No. New Wrangler. Besides a bed, a Wrangler and Tacoma are very similar except the Wrangler has a SFA. Again, I had a Wrangler, not one issue.

I have a 2016 Taco TRDOR and a 2016 Rubicon. No issues on the rubicon and I have modified it heavily, running 37's and the taco I already had to pay almost $4k in out of warranty repairs caused by offroad use. I trust my JK much more than the taco. As soon as Jeep releases the JL truck version with a diesel or hemi, the taco gets traded in.

Switched from Chevrolet to Toyota in 2007 bought a Access cab SR5 V6 Auto to have around the house as a third vehicle. Sent it to the Farm in 2012 (where it still serves)
Bought a new 2016 identically equipped, would not change a thing.

Don't hold your breath on the Hemi.

Seriously, Toyota really under built the 3rd gen. Pretty sad really.

Remind me, isn't the add actuator above the skid plate. Realizing the TRD skid is pretty thin, but are you saying the skid deformed, or the sand got on top of the skid and broke the add?
The add looks hermetically sealed, so it actually just broke it off, not jammed it?

yeah the taco skids are just thin sheet metal so I automatically replaced them with the full RCI skid system. Don't want to hijack the thread so if you want I can show you photos on DM. But yeah, sand packed in between the skid and the actuator, it broke off and caused water to get in. Toyota blamed me for using the truck in a way that it was intended for, even though we were re-creating the crawl control commercial in the sand on the beach and the tires just shoveled the sand in as it kept digging it self in.

I so should have gone with a tundra 5.7... same MPG's - around 14? - much more space, all the power, everything sorted... And damn do they look good lifted on 37's!

I wouldn't buy my third gen again.

If I could do things differently, I probably would have gotten the Access Cab with MT. I didn't realize at the time how much more I would have valued the short cab and 6 foot bed. However, having the wrong configuration combined with an unimpressive 39k miles on the truck led to its sale.

It's a bummer they don't offer the Offroad in the US in Access cab/MT.

I like the new JL Wrangler, looks great, except Jeep is usually towards the bottom of the JD Powers study and Toyota is usually towards the top. I drove an 11' JK Rubi. unlimited for 5 years; great off road but leaking top, rattling front susp., rattling doors and tailgate, steering shaft replaced, loud clunk from the base of the windshield when going through any dip in the road, averaged about 13 mpg, imho the 3.8l/ 4 speed was possibly the worst body/ engine/ trans. combination in recent history. My mostly stock 17' Tacoma is a rocket-ship compared to an 11' JKU and gets about 40% better mpg. I'm sure the 2018 JL is worlds better in the drive-ability dept. but the reliability would still concern me.

I can agree with that. The 3.8 was a turd. My JK on 37's with 5.38's get's better gas mileage than my taco on dinky little 285/70/17's (which always rub btw) and 4.88's. The jeep does rattle more after beating on it offroad quite a bit.

No, I would not purchase this truck again. Next year I'm going to get rid of it, and I'll either be going back to a 4Runner or getting a Tundra. The Tundra is my first choice, but I'm hearing unconfirmed reports that Toyota will redesign it with a different engine and transmission for 2019. After my experience with my Tacoma, there's no way I'll be buying a redesigned truck from Toyota. If I absolutely had to buy a Tacoma again, I would get a manual transmission. Despite this, I don't hate my Taco, I just don't love it the way I loved my 4Runner.

I love my truck 19 months and 21,000 miles in. I went to Toyota and check-out a Quicksand TRD Pro and the salesman had me 90 seconds from buying it. To me, it drives the about the same. I like my SR as a lot of the bells and whistles that the TRD pro I will never use. If my truck was hit by a meteor and totaled, I would buy another SR.

Does buying the same truck 13 years apart count?

A chance to stay in "official Toyota" spec, have more power, and roll the price of a supercharger into a payment? Sounds good to me.

I did buy it because of how it looks, I wanted white.
