Deaden the Ceiling? Has anyone done it?

before you all flip out and say "try searching the forums"...i have. But i am looking specifically for a write up on HOW to do it. I have my materials, i THINK i know what i am doing, i just like to have something to go by. Is it complicated?

Also, is there an audible difference when you sound deaden the ceiling? I know when it rains, my truck sounds like an empty coffee can up there, so i am hoping this project will stop that.

Deadens easily with CLD (could also overlay with MLV if you have OCD)
glue wont hold the MLV - i used sheet metal screws into the cross members on the roof.

i cant hear the rain hitting the roof anymore!!!

 

Not to sound like an idiot but what is CLD and MLV?

 

Any issues with the side curtain airbags? I've been thinking about doing this as well, but wasn't sure how the airbags affected removal/installation of the headliner.

 

CLD is a constrained layer dampener. It's mat style deadener like dynamat from Don at Sound Deadener Showdown. MLV is mass loaded vinyl. It's used as a noise barrier.

None, they don't get in the way at all.

 

It's ridiculously easy, at least on an access cab. Just be careful pulling everything out that holds it up so as not to snap fastners, etc.

I just did a layer of Raammat and ensolite on mine (self adhesive ensolite FTW!). Quiet as can be now, even in heavy downpours that empty tin can sound is gone.

 

^Self adhesive ensolite is bitchin. I like the actual foam from Don better but the self adhesive stuff makes it a TON easier.

 

God yes it does. I mean it's SOOOOOOOOO much easier. I will only use that from now on.
