I am seeing a 10F drop with this radiator, even without sealing up the sides of the shroud. Very happy with it. One of the shroud mounts was welded on crooked, so I had to drill out a shroud tab.

I pull the same hill every day. Weather wise today is a little warmer. Did it yesterday morning, then swapped the rads and just did it again today. I have used a scangauge for the last 4 years since I bought the FJ new and it would always hit 198F at the top of the grade. Today I saw 188F. It looks like around town 186F is where it likes to sit, normally it was 192-196F. It isnt AC weather here yet and that will be a good test.

I have a big ass tranny cooler, but even trans temps are lower. Makes sense as the coolant isnt warming it up as much before it hits the aftermarket cooler.

No. Only thing that changed was the rad. I had done a full coolant flush just a month ago, so even coolant quality was the same.

In scenarios like this where parts like the thermo are easy to change I just wanted to make one change to see if the rad would make a difference. And it did.

Should mention that you will need a couple extra washers for the bottom shroud mounts if using the FJ shroud. The supplied bolts are too long if you are using an oem shroud. The aftermarket ones may use thinner plastic.

The aftermarket shroud is the same thickness. I didn’t use the bolts. The shroud fits pretty snug in those slots.

There must be some tolerance in their jig because mine had enough movement to rattle around when I did my initial startup. So I ended up using the bolts to quiet it down. Wonder if mine was built by someone having a bad day, would explain the one crooked upper shroud mount too.

Bet when I install that weatherstripping i can get away without using the bolts.

Keep in mind, I put rubber weather stripping on my shroud which likely made it fit much more snug vs without.

EDIT: Guilty of not reading everything. You mentioned the weatherstripping. My bad
