    hey gcwaterski
where you from that salesman won't give on the price??? They are not the only toyota dealers... they need the commission check! I would never pay for $29000 on a tacoma!!! They aren't flying off the lot!! Gas aint cheap! Go somewhere else... someone will give in!!

Just out of curiosity, what part of the country do you live in? some places are harder than others to get deals. based on what i've heard in this forum, if you live out west, CA or someplace like that, you need to expect to pay more. Same deal with some places up north due tothe lack of availability of certain options and the popularity of the truck. Where i live Fords and Chevy's rule so it's not that hard to get the dealer to work with you

Although, i have read some post on here where people have gotten better deals than me, i read on one of them where i guy got a rig very similar to mine for between 25k and 26k. it all depends on the sales guy, how much he needs the sale, your attitiude, where you live and about 30 other variables. you may just have to wait till you are in the right place at the right time.

Here is one little piece of advice that may help. I walked into every dealership i went to and acted like a rock star. I knew i wasn't going to finance through the dealership so i told them i was paying cash. I walked in with my chest poked out swaggering like i just got laid. I didn't tell them what i made but i made it sound like i was loaded. I walked in, told them i didnt want to see anything on the lot, told them EXACTLYLY what i wanted and EXACTLY what i was going to pay. I told them i had no interest in talking finance cause i was paying cash up front (i got a loan through my credit union so as far as the dealer was concerned that was a true statement) I told them straight up, this was not a negotionation, if you can meet my price you'll have my business today, if not, i'll go to one of the other 10 dealers in the area. And thats what i did, until they finally got close enough to my price. I told them i wouldn't pay a penny over 26k (but i knew if they got close enough i would jump on it) and i kept telling them that over and over again no matter what deal they threw at me. Until one dealer finally said 26.5k is the best he could do and i said "deal!" we shook, signed papers and after two weeks of acting like a loaded rock star i had my truck at a price i was willing to pay. Moral of the story is... act like you have at least $1 million in your bank account and treat them all like a rock star treats his servants. it worked for me....

i had a similar deal for my truck but i couldnt get them that low. they told me that they make out better if i go through a bank( finder's fee) and since it was a cash deal other then buying a truck from them they would not gain anymore then a truck sale.

I live in Ga. I dont know what the deal is though. They say that they are only charging around $500 over invoice. They may be lying. But a 2007 V6, DC, Auto., 4X4 Off Road, Tow Pckg. I am told has an invoice of >$26K.

With 7% sales tax, tag, and title it is much more, People down here pay $30K for these trucks. I mean, I am told by some members here on PMs that work for toyota tell me $29,000 is a pretty decent deal out the door.

Tacomas are very popular down here.

I am paying cash, and the fact that I drive up in either a pretty new BMW (mine), or a very new Mercedes (my brother's) may not help. They say "c'mon, you can swing this, if you can swing the payments on that car". I think the fact that I walk around like I can pay cash, dress nice, and act like im loaded hurts me.:(

I went in and explained that I wanted a truck, but didn't need another vehicle. If I was going to get a truck, it would have to get at least the same mileage as my Accord that it would replace. I told them I was just looking for now. When they didn't have what I wanted (PreRunner SR5, silver, 2.7L, manual, with nothing else), they gave me an upgraded one for the same price.

I think Jennifer and I walked out 4 times. The third time we left and they called us back. My career and my cash flow never came up in conversation. The fact that I wasn't eager to spend money did.

I believe this is true. I read somewhere that if you go in telling them your going to pay cash, they will inflate the price because they know they have no chance of making money on you through a loan. When I pulled up in a Corvette, all the salesman saw me and came running, but they looked at me like I could afford to pay more, and they kept trying to get me to do just that. I believe that was a mistake. When I pulled up in my modest Accord wearing jeans and a t-shirt, the salesman casually walked up and greeted me, made me feel very comfortable, and came back with a price that blew the other dealer out of the water.

This was true for me also. The guy had no idea what I made until we settled on a price for the truck first. We never talked about how I was paying, only the PURCHASE PRICE. We settled on a Purchase Price, then we talked trade, then we talked financing. He had no idea how much I made until he was filling out the credit application and asked my gross monthly income. The fact that I had already been approved for a loan through my bank and I knew what the rate was helped me negotiate for a better deal on financing.

I think some people have apoint when they say small town dealers will give you the better price. I got mine from toyota of greenville, which is somwhat large but nothing compared toa dealership in a big city. I really don't know what to say, other than telling you what i paid for mine. Hope you can find a good deal you're willing to settle on

^^^ I think that works better- go in really casual. I dont really walk around like im loaded at the dealership,LOL. But I think if they think i can BARELY afford it~ they would work with me more.

My dad swears that he has gotten better deals pulling up in a work truck, after some yard work or something and all grunged out!

I mean, whats the verdict - $29K a GO DEAL?

my friend paid cash on a Mazda 3 and he got a kick ass deal
granted, is not a tacoma. but they give in!

I dont know how much is title and registration and document fees in ga.

I donn't think it should add up to $29,000

I hate it when they think they know your life on how much you make.
WTF!! If i drove up to a toyota dealer with Nice ride and they say you can afford the payment... I would say back... I maybe rich but I ain't stupid and walk out!!!

I agree, most people who are rich are rich for a reason, they know the value of a dollar and how to maximize its value. It's harder to take advantage of a rich person than people might think. I acted like i had plenty of money and was willing to spend it right then and there, but i also didn't act like i was a money waster. I told them what i wanted as far as 4x4 and TRD etc.... but told them i didn't give two shi*s about the interior, i told them i didn't care if it had a cd player, i said a tape deck was fine with me, that that stuff was not important to me and i wouldn't pay extra for anything the truck came with that i didnt want. I let them know i was WILLING to buy immediately, but didnt NEED to buy immediatelly, and was not paying for anything i didnt want. Once they realized i was a stubborn ass, they were willing to work with me.

If all you want is TRD and Towing, no floor mats or anything then then
If the MSRP=$29,895 Then the Invoice should be=$26,776 (according to Edmunds.com)

You can ask your dealer to break down the additional amounts like tt&l and the tax % in your state. In Texas for me it was as follows:

    $1487 Sales Tax (after trade price $23,800 * 6%)
    $52 Inventory Tax
    $103 Registration
    $50 Doc. fee
    $23.75 Inspection

    I hope this helps.

Most of tacoma off-rd edition i saw on the dealers lot comes with the floor matts and 6 disc changer. Floor Mats should come with the truck, they shouldn't have to charge $193 for it, i rather get one from auto place. 6 disc changer sucks too, They break in a short period of time and it wont change disc. I rather get a one cd player with aux jack for my ipod!!!
They should throw that in too!! I think I need a tonneau top when i get my truck... and a bed extender too!

Yeah, they tried to charge me $160 for the floor mats. I said "they come out right?" they said "oh yeah you can take 'em right out and clean them, they're great" so i said "ok great, take 'em out, im not paying for them" So they took the price for the floor mats out of the deal. When i got in my truck i had all four of them. I dont know if they forgot to take them out or just decided not to worry about it, either way i got them for free. my off-road didn't come with a changer, and if it did, they would have taken it out or given it to me for free, cause i told them i didn't want the changer at all and definately wouln't pay for it.

I got a loan from my credit union and had them deposit my check into my account. so as far as the dealer was concerned i payed straight up cash. I've heard two different things. I've heard you get a better deal if you pay cash, and i've heard that you get a better deal if you finance through the dealer. I'm not sure which one is true most of the time but i got a good deal paying straight up. Like i said, every sale is gonna be different. depends on the sales guy, your attitude, the manager, small dealer vs. big dealer, even time of month. actually now that i think about it near the end of the month is probably the best time. the sales guys have to make quotas. they vary from dealerhip to dealership, my friend worked at a dealership and they had quarterly quotas, but i think some dealerships have monthly quotas. if you catch a sales guy at the end of the month who is a little short, he'll bust his ass to sell you a truck.

    hey guys...
I must say after discussing with so many people with this forum and edmunds...
I have come to a conclusion.......

I have to save some more to figure out if this vehicle would be best for me...
I love the truck, i love the way it looks and capapilites

but i heard so many good things and some people with bad things about som vibration and other crap.

I was reading other part of a forum where this guy got th 2007 tacoma. pretty much got everything replaced. I guess they built it all wrong!!

If that was happening to me... I WOULD BE F-ING pissed off!!!
I work hard for my money, and I want to get the best thing...

anyway, I'm going to save more money maybe look at the 08 or a Frontier... anyway, i still have to test driver them!! WORD!!

I know where you are coming from- but that instance with the guy getting everything replaced, to me is a fluke. I think the new frontier is kinda cool- but have come to the conclusion that they are not viewed to be as "cool" as the Tacoma- I don't know how old you are- or if you care if its cool or not- i have just heard A LOT of people consider the Frontier to be kinda "weenie" like, or "weenie-ish" if you will. Now, whatever that means is a toss up. I am sure if I wanted something bad enough, i would get it regardless- just wanted you to know. Dont be a Weenie-Stay with the Tacoma. LOL
