Nobody said anything about the actual barrel and shooting the gun . The statement is for the people that don’t regularly get to a range and their bedside gun sets for years and years and years and when they find out their spring has gone dwas is at the least most opportunistic time. You cannot argue 7 rounds over 17 that’s just illogical old thinking! And yes it is each to their own, what I am telling you is for your good, not mine!

You're far more likely to have mag spring issues from repeated use than you are from letting it sit compressed

I had the same 3 glock mags that were fully loaded for 10 years....carried every single one of them on duty

Cycled out rounds once a year for quals but used other mags for practice because I didn't like keeping up with 46 rounds of loose duty ammo and ensuring it didn't mix with my personal ammo

Never once did I have any issues and the springs were still springy

I have "numerous" magazines from the 70s era that have been loaded to capacity since new . No function issues . Define "over time " ?

Your simile is inaccurate, is what I was driving at. Running a generator at 10/10ths wears it out. Keeping 8 rounds in an 8 round mag between range sessions doesn't make a difference to the gun. If it means that the mag spring only lasts 9 years instead of 10 that's a price I'm willing to pay. And I'm not arguing 7 rounds over 17; I'm saying that just because a 1911 doesn't hold 17 rounds it isn't necessarily useless and only good as 'art'. VERBATIM: I don't EDC it, but I'm confident in it as a bedstand gun.

Considering that what you're telling me is verifiably NOT accurate (compression isn't what wears out mag springs), it's really not for my own good. So, like I said, to each their own. You do what you want, and keep only loading your mags 2/3rds of the way. I'll stuff mine full, and maybe replace the springs one more time than you over the next 50 years.

On 1911's, I like the form factor and the history. I've had one or two in the past and will probably get one in the future just to have one. For me, the limiting factor is capacity. I prefer to have more BB's available, so my EDC is a G19 with a G17 mag with +2 extension (a duplicate serves as reload). Even my M&P shield (the gun I carry when I can't carry a gun) has been upgraded with Hyve +2 extensions, so each mag is carrying 10 rounds.

In regards to magazines, I have at least a half dozen AK mags that have been loaded for over 10 years. I unload and reload them once every couple of years and I've yet to identify any fatigue whatsoever. I had a couple of polymer (US Palm) magazines that were in the mix, but the polymer failed after about 6 years. When the polymer let go, the mag base, spring, and carrier came to rest on the other side of the room (the mag was in a chest rig sitting by my safe). My Glock mags have been similarly loaded, but I've only had my G17 mags for about 5-6 years.

they are ok, I had a brand new GI springfield about 15yrs ago and about every 5th round would pop back and hit me right in the forehead! Something was messed up on it but I just sold it rather than try to get it fixed. I do have an Argentine 1911, but havent shot it in a number of years now.

I like 1911s a lot. Have one ongoing project gun that has lots of work done to it. Just bought a Colt Combat Commander at the local FNRA banquet as my 2nd 1911. I’ve had others along the way, too.

In another forum, the question was asked: "What is the Toyota Tacoma of guns?"
Answers included: Glock 19, AR-15, and AK-47 (for Hillux fans).
    What are y'alls answers?

Yeah, but AR frames don't rust...

    :stirthepot:

Although....It's been a while since I trolled the AR forums, but if I remember right the Inertia vs Gas crowds are just as adamant on which one is better as 1st & 2nd gen owners are. :notsure:
