What size tires do you have on there right now? They do look close to the front but we can't see how close they are to the back to tell if they are centered.

Edit: sorry we missed the first picture, it does look like your axle is already forward. Would be interesting to know what tires and existing Leaf pack your running.

With 31s it didn't matter for me either, but with 33s I had to move my axle forward 3/4".

I’m running 33’s . The first pic is of the front of the tire the second is of the rear of the tire. It’s jacked up about 6 inch’s or so. I have read your write-up that’s what got me thinking about it.

 

What spring pack do you currently have?

so moral of the argument is a 600# spring will always be a 600# spring regardless how long it is? been trying to get my head around how it works to. my brain is fried like bacon in a skillet for 10 hours

 

I guess some brands move the axle forward, like Dakar I think, someone will correct me if I’m wrong. Alcans seem to move it back, I would ask them to move it forward (probably the best) or you could just use a relocation plate.

I feel like most companies should have been told enough what’s happening and corrected it by now.

yes that is what I was saying the whole time. this is what a spring rate is. 600lb coil means it takes 600lbs to move an inch as in every inch is 600lbs of force.

 

Just looked over your write-up again. Your wheel looked like it would be hitting the rear fender and you moved your center forward. So if mine is going to be hitting the the front fender I would have to move the center pin back correct? My dyslexia is kicking in and my noobness as well.

 

Here is another solution a lot of guys including myself use to center the axle after lift: With this you can move it back or forward and it has 2 settings depending how much the axle needs to be moved.

 

Thanks I will keep this as an option. But if I’m going with a custom leaf pack I might as well have them do it.

 

I’m trying to take any useable parts off the original motor that came out of my my truck before I take it to the scrapper. I can’t figure out how to take the upper intake (not sure if this is the correct term, pic attached) off. I removed all the bolts that I could see and it’s not moving. I don’t have my Haynes manual, and I haven’t been able to find a FSM. Any help?

 

The springs you have now look like they moved the axle forward, if you get Alcans your axle might get moved back, causing your tires to make contact at the back of the fender. But if you ask them to move the center pin forward 3/4” or whatever your axle should be centered and all fine.

 

Ah I see this makes sense my noobness is fading thanks Now when I call them I will be able work it out properly.

 

This got me for a few minutes too, and your reasoning is sound. Here's the thing... if you had stock leafs, then that'd be one thing (and you might ask Alcan to push your axle back)... but you don't - you have aftermarket leafs, and you don't know what they've done to your axle.

So then, this \/\/\/

...OK, so that said, here's something you could do to know for sure. If you go this route, I'd call Alcan to discuss it with them first.

If you have an afternoon, you could remove one of the OME leafs and measure the distance from the center of the front bushing to the center pin. Stock distance is 24 1/8", when you use a yard stick (vs. a tape measure - you want to measure the tangent between the points, not the arc of the springs).

You'll find one of three things:

1. The distance is less than 24 1/8" - in this case, you know the OME's moved your axle forward, and you need to move it back. You can likely get the Alcan leafs with the center pin in the "default" location and be good.
   
2. The distance is exactly 24 1/8" - I've never seen anyone talk of this, but it would mean that your axle is forward for some reason. You could have Alcan move it back, or you could use the center pin relocation plates above.
3. The distance is more than 24 1/8" - this would be even stranger, but would have the same remedy as #2.

knock it loose with a rubber mallet or dead blow hammer to break the seal on the gasket then lift it straight up.

 

I tapped it with a hammer because it’s all I had at the time, but didn’t want to go to town on it not knowing if I had missed something. I’ll grab my dead blow and have another go at it. Thanks!

 

also looks like you missed a couple bolts. get the dirt off of it and you'll see them.
