Why do posters obscure their plates? They can be seen by anyone, anytime, yet y'all feel the need to cover them up with fingers or scribble over them. Help me understand.
    Thanks

I’ve always wondered why, as well. It’s not my phone number, or SSN.

Besides, I paid extra to show off mine!

Same here! The tire place I go was taking a pic of my truck for their website and the guy was like "I'm making sure to not get your plate in there." I laughed and told him to put it in! I paid good money for it.

For the same reason Congress passes knee jerk laws after a tragedy/disaster. It provides the illusion of safety/security. For exhibit number one, I present the TSA.

I guess so. It's not exactly a private thing though. It's on your vehicle and gets seen by quite a few people per day. And as mentioned earlier, not just anyone can get info from your license plate number.

Good question, as I have posted here on TW, and on other truck forums that I was on before I got my Taco, and never covered it, but today when I made a post; I for some reason covered it.

We live in a time where information has become much more valuable than gold so every opportunity to protect it is a smart thing to do! Obviously you can’t do that while driving on the roadway because you signed a unilateral contract with the state ie your drivers license

That's the beauty of murica, is that everyone can do as they damn well please, within reason. You wanna block your license plate? Go for it. Doesn't affect me any :oldglory:

I don’t really get it either. I never block mine out. As it’s been said you walk or drive by 100’s of plates a day what makes plates on the InterWebs special.

    my build tread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/socal-no-shame-poser-build.513084/
In California I think anyone can pay a fee to get address of license plate its “public record”. So if someone wanted to steal some cool stuff off someones taco they been posting on here like lightbar etc they could get the address and go do it. I assumed this is why. But I dont block mine.

Anyone can run a license plate number. One of the many sites you can do so. . .
    https://www.searchquarry.com/free-license-plate-number-lookup/

You will get limited information with the free search but you can pay a fee and get more information.
