I think the best part is its well focused, usable light. I'm sure the 90/100s are no slouches either.

That thread has a lot of great info in it and the OP has taken a lead role in developing the ideas. He is local to me BTW. I think Dan, @drr has actually met the guy.

To me, this is a way to 'save' the old, worthless, OEM headlights at what is a relatively inexpensive cost..

I've been looking hard at this mod for a while. I think the output is quite an upgrade, I don't know how well it would compare to retrofits though. I really like your headlights Mike, it would be a big toss up for me between the two.
I haven't met the guy, he lives right around me somewhere though. His truck is stock-looking, so it's hard to tell with all the Tacomas people have around here though.

I'm sure you guys have the skills and patience to do your own retrofits, but your still looking at ~$400 to do it yourself. But that is like 4 times the cost of doing the wiring upgrade for high wattage halogens.

Don't get me wrong, my retros put out some great light, and I like them a lot.

Yeah looks like an affordable upgrade. I'll probably go for it. And just get some nice Baja designs for the fogs and some big spots on the bumper.

8x the cost if we're calling it $400 for retros. That wiring harness upgrade can be bough real cheap. I'd just worry about headlights melting

That's true, it is quite a bit cheaper and easier. Gotta love that HID color and cutoff though.

Yeah, I have one for my LED headlights. I only needed it because I had to make diodes work on switched ground. So two relays and a separate power draw are required to make it into switched positive. But that said my harness also serves the purpose of allowing more amperage to safely be delivered and it only cost $22.

They make ones with even thicker wiring but I'm pretty sure these are more than enough...

This true. IMO, mine are just a tad high to be ideal at 4500 kelvin. If I had known better at the time, I would have gone with a 55 watt ballast instead of the 35 watt version. to lower the color temp of the bulbs a bit. 3800-4000 kelvin would have been ideal.

I don't mind my Rigid's when I'm on back highways, I've probably only driven for an hour or less with them on constantly though.

I just want whatever I get to match my LED bar and spots I want to put on the bumper. Mismatching light colors kinda drives my OCD up the wall.

I have a very long back log of photos to work through..

But figured Id start here as it was too pretty not too.

We wanted to go for a hike yesterday and had hoped to go to Mystic Lake. Alas the road was closed, likely washed out and we got turned around. So we headed towards Luther where we knew there was some access. But on the way there we passed the East Rose Bud road and I mentioned I'd never been there either. Devin did some Googling on our way to Luther, and after eating lunch up there. We decided to go back to East Rose Bud as it had a lake.

    Glad we did.

It has been cloudy and rain the last few days and i sweat by some miricle just East Rose Bud lake was blue bird. The steep cliffs seemingly holding off the clouds. It was specactually beautiful up there.

[IMG]East Rose Bud-3.jpg by Monte Nickles Photos, on Flickr

It was a nice river valley with a very surprising amount of private homes through it. But was still amazing to see. The mountains were like fortresses.

Even more to our surprise was that almost the entire lake shore has been private land since 1894. There is a small boat launch site and that is it. Small cabins dotted the shore line everywhere.

We didn't really care though as Elk Lake was 3.5 miles away. So we hit the trail and soon made it to the end of East Rose Bud lake.

[IMG]East Rose Bud-10.jpg by Monte Nickles Photos, on Flickr

Views were breathtaking to say the least.

[IMG]East Rose Bud-11.jpg by Monte Nickles Photos, on Flickr
[IMG]East Rose Bud-12.jpg by Monte Nickles Photos, on Flickr

We stopped often to marvel at the large crumbling towers around us.

Though it seemed like we could have floated or kayaked the river to the lake..that was soon given up by the massive rapids thats went on for the next few miles to Elk Lake.

    I mean. come on..thats a selfi moment :D

[IMG]East Rose Bud-20.jpg by Monte Nickles Photos, on Flickr

We continued up the steep climb, though the only real climb all day, and walked through the timber.

[IMG]East Rose Bud-21.jpg by Monte Nickles Photos, on Flickr

The we hit Elk Lake. Wow.

We are coming back. Its a very calm and shallow lake. It was hot today in the sun but not as hot as it will get. We knew this would be a wonderful place to wade in the shallow waters once its hit 90º

Not very truck related other than we put on 120 miles driving around in Igor to do all this with plenty of nice simple dirt roads driven. But still. Gotta love the Beartooths.
