Been wanting to get one as a project truck/expedition vehicle and something to replace my old 2007 FJ Cruiser.

Holy crap there are lots of different variants compared to the FJC and 4Runner.

I'm in CO where the dealers aren't very helpful and no matter what version I pick (SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off road) I'm looking at 34-35k.

My biggest question was trims, since my local dealers suck in terms of knowing the options for these things. Looks like the only one that offers a factory locking rear diff is the Off Road. Dealer says that the only one I can get with the MT is the TRD Sport, tho. I tried using the builder on the Toyota site, but I was told that they can't order one for me anyway.

Other thing is can you get a rear seat delete with the Access cab across all the model ranges, or that's only for the basic bitch SR? I really have no use for the back seat and having extra cargo room back there would be great.

Can you get a 6MT with a locking rear diff in the TRD Sport, or is that only a TRD Off Road package? MT isn't a huge deal killer, but my FJC has one and it's fun as hell to drive.

You can only get a locking rear diff in a trd off-road or Pro

For 2018, the Manual comes in the Sport, Off Road, and Pro.

Damn...they got expensive. I looked at some 2016 SR utility packages and they were about $23k. Just looked on Toyota’s site and the same build as a 2018 is $28k. I was going to suggest a $23k utility package and build off that if you thought you could live with the 2.7l engine. $12k buys you a lot of fun aftermarket toys.

It's around 27.5 for a SR AT 4 banger 4x4 with a rear seat delete (utility package). I know that they use them as utility vehicles around here, so they're not terribly slow, but no one has one I can drive at elevation to see just how slow they are. I have the old FJC with the 240hp engine and that's not a slug.

I'm sure I could add an air locker and off road stuff to that...

I paid $25k for a new '17 SR 4x4 MT 2.7L, with convenience package, back in February. Could still be a few kicking around.

If you're looking for the OR in access cab MT, then that's why they told you only the sport is offered. The OR AC MT is only offered in Canada as far as I know. If you want the OR DCSB MT, then they probably just don't want to order it for you.

I second this. If slow and steady is your goal I'd go basic 2.7 with 4x4.

Especially in Colorado, you will not be happy with a 4 banger SR.

Suck it up and spend the money.

May just have to go this route if I want an MT (which is a purely personal preference). It's not much more, and have to find a dealer who wants to do a trade/order.
