Thanks for the get wells. I'm actually feeling pretty much normal now. Glad it didn't turn into pneumonia!

Both of my parents are still going, living independently sorta in a retirement community where their meals are all done for them and all they need to do is pull a cord and somebody shows up. I feel blessed to still have them with me. My wife lost her dad quite a few years ago to Alzheimer's and her mom passed 2-3 years back.

Both my parents are gone as is Lynn's Dad. But, her mom still lives in the original farmhouse on our property just down the hill from us. She is 91 and still hanging in there.

I met a man today that is 94 years old. ( I work in a Hospital and was called too see him). I asked him about WWII as he was "that age" as he was having his workup done. He said he was in Patton's 3rd Army in an anti aircraft unit. I asked him if he ever met Patton and he said he had. He told me he was on an assignment all day and hadn't eaten so they stepped into a bar in a French village and grabbed a loaf of bread. Just as they stepped out onto the street Patton drove up with 2 jeeps each mounted with a 50 caliber machine gun. He asked the Lieutenant what they were doing, who then told Patton they were hungry more or less. Patton said , "Do you have C-rats?" The Lieutenant replied they had and they were in their vehicle. Patton replied, "Then eat them."

Took my Tacoma in to have recall work done on 4 recalls. So they give me a 2018 Silverado as a rental car, no charge to me. Truck is too wide to fit into the garage.

We went to Memphis and Nashville last week. I was able to drive the wife's Avalon for extended drives. The car is really nice. I finally figured out how the Radar Cruise Control really works and it is slick. I was getting frustrated because the car is so smooth and hard to tell when the deceleration kicked in. Once I figure out how to tell that from the information screen made the drive a lot nicer.

No  That's great. Mom's been gone 19 days less than 20 years and dad 19 1/2 years ago :( Kids lost 3 grand parents w/in 6 months. FIL went half way between mom and dad.

    ^ this

    me, too :anonymous:

    that's awesome

If it's like the one in my Subie, love the cruise.... set it and forget it... just have to check occasionally that I'm not following a SLOW POKE!!! Set it at X0 mph last year going through Atlanta and didn't have to touch the brakes once. She sped up and slowed down with traffic.

    afternoon boys!!!

I have it in my Subaru, too. It took me awhile to remember to check it since it slows down to the speed of the car in front of you.

Retired in June 1995, Mom passed in late Oct of that year and Pop passed in early April 1996. Mother-in-Law passed in 2003. We moved from Florida to Tennessee to be near Dad (90 year old Navy retiree and WWII vet), our last living parent, in 2009. He still drives locally but we chauffeur him to doctor visits, dinners out and trips to visit his sisters in Missouri. We want to spend as much time with him as he will permit. God only gives us one set of parents each and we are almost out of our allotment. Our son lives about 2 miles away, so the family will miss Dad, he has been such a large part of our lives.

Hi Tom, When mine went in for recalls (including frame replacement) they gave me a Corolla that was really beat. Rental agent couldn't even show all the minor body damage on the rental sheet o_O. I asked for a pick-up but because of the frame recall they had none left for rentals. Fortunately I didn't have to pay for the rental, Toyota picked up that bill.

First car with Radar Cruise that I drove was a new Nissan Murano. Was on the Tpke and set the cruise at 70. The car started slowing down the closer I got to the car ahead of me. I thought there was a problem with the Nissan until I saw the distance bars on the display. Figured how to adjust the distance and thought it was pretty good idea but don't like using it in heavy traffic.

Hi Mike, many of the new cars I drive have blind spot which is nice to catch the one that drives in the blind spot but lane departure is still an option most don't get. Gives a buzzing warning and if you continue it starts to brake automatically. Nice feature.

Hi Ms Susan :hattip:. Hope all is well.

Hope you and the family have many more good years with Dad Linnie. I wish I had more time with my Dad but it wasn't meant to be. FIL was my adopted Dad and a really great guy. When he left us, there was an empty spot in our lives. God Bless your Dad.

Mark: The Avalon is pretty cool. Once I realized that on the small display between the speedo and the tach, a picture of the car with lanes in front of it came on, that the cruise slow down was going to happen changing lanes to pass became a breeze. The car is so smooth that it would slow down from 73 to 68 without me noticing a change in speeds.

Mike: The Avalon has all the safety features. I keep them turned on just as a reminder, and because I an old. LOL Sometimes they are a nuisance but both my wife and myself have had the accidence avoidance kick in on the interstate. I know a lot of us old guys do not care for modern features in cars, more crap to go wrong, but some advances are worth the extra cash outlay.

Well not to start anything but I hate anything that takes the control away from me.
Blind spot warning, radar cruise, warning lights, when the car grabs your wheel and turns it on its own that’s enough for me.
I have almost been in 2accidents on road tests because of that crap.
    Nope nada..

Ken: How was the vacation with the wife? Even though the Silverado will not fit into the garage I will keep the rental. My son gets to park his car in the garage. Told him not to get used to it. I have a small wood working project I am starting today. Going to build a small shop stool for my son.

Mike: I understand and there is nothing wrong with wanting the control. I do not believe you can turn off the Radar function of the cruise control but all the other features can be turned off. One good thing is you are trained on how to work on the new automotive systems with the proper tools.

Sometimes I wish for a simple timing light and dwell meter fix. Something I can handle. I do have a code reader but that tool just points you in the general direction of the problem.
