@mach1man001 what time do you get into work? I may try to swing down there Friday morning to grab that damn channel charcoal canister

 

My Sea Ox had a 90 gallon tank. I never had more than 40 in it at any time. just a lot of extra weight that affected handling and planing off.
The 150 Opti was very efficient with fuel and oil. Typical local fishing trip, I'd burn only a couple gallons. 3 gallon oil tank, I'd top off a couple times a season.

 

What did it have on it for a motor? The big ones that I've seen have all been fairly thirsty.

Edit- And why such a big tank? Were they designed as a work boat?

 

I'm here at 8am but I have it in my truck. You can meet me at my house any night but tomorrow night to get it. I live in Blackstone so it's much closer for you

 

Merc Optimax 150.
My friend is a Merc dealer and he calls the 150 a small block. When you jump up to 175,200 and 225's it's a big block. Fuel consumption on those are not great.
I couldn't believe how little oil the 150 used with the direct port injection.

Would make sense, though. At a certain point you just need a bigger block, same as cars. I don't have any experience with anybody running a 150; they've always been sub-100's or they've been 200+.

 

I'd love to see it, but apply it only for people who have had an at fault accident or traffic violation. Testing everyone is a lot of overhead, plus most of the time the people I see who are driving scary have a vehicle with at least one significant dent.

 

The Sea Ox was rated for 240 hp.
my buddy recommended the 150 and I was very happy with it. I ran WOT a couple times and it was able to touch 50mph. Not bad for a fishing rig.
I think a 225 would have been downright dangerous with that boat.

 

I personally don't see the appeal of that kind of speed on the water. 35 is fast enough. 50-60 is white-knuckle speed. And in Maine, there's always the chance for that log or boulder lurking just under the surface that you don't see until you're right on top of it. At 60 that'd be terrifying. And expensive, obviously.

 

Back when I had my Grady, I was heading out to one of my Striper spots in the dark one morning when I hit something that almost stopped the boat.
I thought I ran over some lobster gear until I shined it with the light.
It was a black wetsuit. For a minute, I thought I run somebody over.

 

That'd be a heart-starter!
This past fall we had the boat out and were just putting along under a bridge (one we'd gone under probably a dozen times that summer with zero issues, so I wasn't watching the depth finder) and found one of the old granite supports from the previous bridge with the skeg. Jumped the crap out of me, but fortunately we weren't moving very fast (no wake zone, so we were only maintaining headway speed) and the skeg did its job. No damage other than a small ding and some missing paint on the front of the skeg. Made a hell of a racket, though.

 

Every God damn day I get a call from the same fucking FL number... Fucking telemarketers piss me off, and I am on the DO NOT CALL list.

So what do I do you ask??!! I answer and my ear bud up to the mic, and let them listen to the Howard Stern Show for a bit.

 

Probably a relief for them; it's a break from listening to people yell at them all day.

If it's the same number you should definitely report them to the FCC. You can do it all online. Most of these places use fake numbers so they appear to be calling from your area, which also makes them much harder to track down.

 

I've had a bunch of those as well... come up as local, but they're really not. Assholes!

 

I get a lot of calls from numbers with the same area code and exchange as my cell number lately. If I answer, they're always pre-recorded messages about credit card debt or something. If I don't, they don't leave a message.

I got a call recently from someone saying I called them and didn't leave a message--I definitely didn't. So, they've got to be spoofing numbers and occasionally spoof mine too.

 

Fucked up. Taking this shit to a whole new level. LAME.

 

I have been getting 2 calls a day from the Hilton Holiday vacations number - I can't answer it when i'm at work but today is a special day. I have my phone on me - I'm going straight up the chain on this caller.

 

It's not hard to do, too.

At work we have a messaging service that can blast phone calls out to parents for emergencies, snow days, etc. The call is made from the company providing the service, not from our own landlines, but we have our number put in so it appears to come from our central office. I could put any number I wanted in there.
