2010 Backup Cam

I was Recently at the Stealership getting my Truck looked at, I was looking at the 2010 Tacoma. It appears that on most of the Tacoma’s now there is a backup camera installed that is pretty cool until someone hits your truck. Is this true with everybody that has 2010 Tacoma?? Just wondering​

The backup camera is a nice feature, I like being able to see if there is a kid or a bike or something behind my truck before I back up. It takes some getting used to for the distance between you and an object but it is handy.

 

Toyota started in 09 adding backup cameras to all their tailgates on the Tacoma. The only thing you need to make it work is the TRD mirror as it has a video screen in it. The SR5's are pre-wired for it.

 

Do you use alot?

 

i use it everytime i reverse!! i also look back.. they day i didnt look in the backup camera i hit a car i didnt see... =( yeah... stupid small cars

 

It is only on the SR5 and the TRD packages.
I have it, and its really not all that helpful, but I think it would be helpful when hooking up a trailer, because it points straight down.

On a related note, my SR5 package lists something like "Rear Distance Sensors". WTF? Anyone know what that's about? I have tried backing right up to things in an attempt to get a 'beep' warning or something, but no go.

WHen i back up i use my Tow hitch for the first line of defense before i back into something.

 

I went ahead and disabled mine. I kind of find it annoying when trying to back up. Being a former truck driver I use my side mirrors anyway....

 

I have an 09 and mine came with the camera but no screen!

 

I use it every time I back up, I still use my mirrors but it's nice to check if there is a kid or dog or something right behind the truck. I have the tow hitch on so I'll hit with that first and it also gives me some sense of depth perception. It really only shows what is right behind the bumper so rely on my mirrors the most but the mirror doesn't show what is at bumper height.

 

I use it all the time...it makes parking alot easier!! I have the distance on point now..

 

Daily. Great feature if you learn how to use it.

I would think that even an average driver can get the hang of it in a short period of time. Just need to gain a perspective on what the camera is showing you.
