Flatbed,35’s and Mainly Parked For Repairs

Old bed is finally gone.

 

That gives up some space for other stuff I bet. Just having an extra bed for the truck sitting around

When you getting the BAMF hardware installed?

 

Yeah the bed was definitely in the way. Was hoping to sell it but meh.

Bumper is painted and done. Was able to get the license plate lights, backup camera and backup lights all mounted too.


I am hoping after Monday I can begin the process of the bamf hangers and boxing the back half of the frame. Have to take everything apart that I just installed, weld, and all that but it will be worth it.

Painted my gas tank skid that I got in the summer. Figured it would be a good time to paint it....

You should google the price tag of the Norweld.....I think I’ll be cheaper with my flatbed, cap, and everything else o have added compared to just the norweld flatbed....they are pricey.

 

What's your new setup cost you so far? You be done a lot of work by yourself which is gotta be helping you out

 

not too sure. Haven’t really kept track of the stuff I sold and what not.

All I know is the norweld is 8k US for the tray. I am well below that for the bed and cap. Won’t be as functional or ready to go but the money saved can be used towards trips and outfitting.

 

I agree, Pete. That's just stupid money for a box.

 

Dont get me wrong, that Norweld unit is worth the price based on the research, engineering, etc etc. IT is a "turn key" solution. Pay and go. But if your handy and willing to do the work, you can save a enormous amount of money.

 

Exactly, that's what a build is all about. Built, not bought. A complete plug and play is too expensive.

 

agreed. For some things for instance, it can be cheaper as things that are mass produced are cheaper. My flatbed for instance would have cost me more to build (or get built) than purchasing from the supplier. The other thing to consider is availability of parts.....although I am building most of my stuff, I can go to any store and buy the parts that I need. If it is too custom you run into issues of minor breaks/problems (ball joints, tie rod, axles) turning into bigger problems (for instance a long travel suspension, if a axle breaks, you have to completely build yourself an extended axle).

another example was I broke my tailgate off on one of the wheeling trips. Called the supplier and I had new hinges within a week no questions asked. If it was a custom one off, it would have been time at a fab shop or me in the garage fixing it...this issue was just replacing a few bolts

 

Well since the weather is crap I may as well update this....

BAMF Shackle hanger replacement
Came well packed

using this to fix this problem

assembled the shackles on the hangers and there was some contact so trimmed it up to make room. BAMF is fixing this issue but I needed this to work as my stock hangers (which would work no problem with these hangers from what I have read in the thread) bushings are shot from being bent in the hanger for a year.






Have a little more work on this to clean them up and then get them re painted....hoping next weekend I can finally get them installed.
