I had P0171 for the longest time - it would only turn on during heavy acceleration. It was just a dirty MAF from my K&N oiled filter. Shot the sensor with some MAF cleaner and I never got the light again.

Okay, sprayed entire engine bay with starting fluid. Nothing. No revving of the engine. Also checked the add canister in the driver wheel well and it looks fine. Sprayed it for good measure. No revving.

I think so, hahaha. I don't necessarily know those things by name. But definitely around the throttle body. Took out air box to access MAF sensor and it looks dirty, so cleaning it now.

If your MAF looks dirty I am almost certain that's what is giving you the code. Of course it could be something else, like the aforementioned vacuum leaks but since you checked all the vacuum points it sounds like it's the MAF.

Toyota stopped putting locks on the gas doors in 2000, I can't imagine why.

You're kidding? I had to drill out the lock cylinder on my 5-Lug because I didn't have the key for it.

The side of I-5 is underrated. Ha ha ha ha. I'm at a gas station.

Air box back in, and I sprayed everything again with the starting fluid. Nothing. No revving. Intake manifold is not loose.

I already cleared codes but I'm also doing a reset with the battery.

Mine was from pirate air from me wrongly putting on the TB gasket. I'd check all the hoses and make sure your air intake tube isn't cracked, mine is and it was causing the code until I used electrical tape to close the leak.

I have like three different Tacoma keys, the 5-lug ignition key, my PreRunner key, and the key from the new lockset I bought for the truck. None of them opened it.

The new lockset came from a 2001 so no gas door key, I bought a new cylinder from the yard and have to get it re-pinned.

Maybe mine is just broken, cruiser key isn't even the same key style and it'll turn it with a little force.

Oh yeah something is up with that key cylinder haha. Trust me first thing I tried was a screwdriver.

My E320 gas door has an actuator in it connected to the central locking system. At least the Germans can do one thing right...

Who knows a thing or two about ignition wiring?

Upon taking out the rats nest of wiring out my 5-lug, I found a sort of jumper/coupler wiring harness that was connected in-line with what I believe is the ignition system wiring. I unplugged it from both sides and plugged the OEM harness back in. I was about to throw it away but I thought if it is for the ignition I could use it for my PreRunner to hook up my remote start system so I don't have to splice anything and unplug the system and return it to stock if I want to. Any ideas?

It won't right away because it is triggering from the fuel trims and there is a clock and margin associated with when a CEL can be triggered off of those

Back on the road, I think it takes a bit for this code to trigger so I won't know for 10 or 15 minutes. Fuel trims still look high though...
