Any Asheville, NC homies in here?

I'm gonna be in NC next month (May 14-17) for work, and I am trying to squeeze in a weekend riding trip to Pisgah the weekend before. Anyone willing to play tour guide?

Interesting - never saw that video before on the setup. It's odd because I aligned the pad based on the opening for the tailgate camera/handle and that's where the straps ended up. I think that the pad that we have is for 2nd gens and isn't necessarily designed for 3rd gens which is why we get that issue. Also, I don't think the straps would work there on my Taco given the tonneau as the bikes are never fully seated in then so I have to have the straps higher in order to use them.

I agree, ive had the gauntlet of racks as well... this one is nice, i guess i just prefer the longer tray. still stoked on the rack though. i know what you are talking about with placement in the rack. im just going to add a voile strap to the front rim around the tray for longer trips, highway speeds and when off road.

@blackohio what rearvbumper is that? And, with that setup can you open the tailgate and Snugtop liftgate with 1Up tilted down, with bikes on the rack? Although the stock receiver is low, I do appreciate that I can access the back (I have an ARE shell) pretty easily with bikes on the rack.

Another option for full bed access is the RM Backstage. I've had it for a couple weeks now and I'm impressed with it so far. Some strategic parking might be required in certain situations to swing it out of the way. Only drawback is two bikes max but that works for me.
Earlier today before a ride in what is left of the white stuff

Thanks, it's my first fatbike. I got it late in the season and I have had a blast on it. Thinking about a set of 29+ for the summer months and maybe a fork

Dude you're going to love it especially since you're used to west coast riding. It's totally different out here.

Wish I could join but unfortunately I can't really get away during the work week.

Speaking of; all the best Pisgah rides are in Brevard (forty mins south Asheville) and typically 15+ miles. It will be probably be tough to get in a decent ride during the week. You may consider North Pisgah just outside of Asheville, there are some solid 2-3 hour loops. Typically not as much gnar but still quality rides nevertheless

Work is Monday to Thursday in NC, I was thinking of flying in the Friday night or Saturday beforehand to ride. If you're open then, first apres round is on me.

You gonna have a rental car?
Fly into Knoxville (Two hours west of Asheville) Saturday night/Sunday morning, I'll pick you up. I've got a race on Saturday but could ride all day Sunday. Windrock DHSE Race/Knoxville riding or day trip to Pisgah on Sunday.

Look these up and let me know what you want to ride:

Knoxville Noteables: Windrock Bike Park (Enduro riding trails are fantastic), Paint Mountain (baby Pisgah) , Baker Creek (Jump Lines galore).

Pisgah Noteables: Dupont (Great views, fast, bedrock), Black Mountain (hike-a-bike, essence of mtbing), Pilot Rock (Don't wreck or youre fucked), Farlow Gap (Never personally ridden, creekbed, gnar)

Installed the Kuat Hi-Lo extension. Worked perfectly, in fact I like it better because now I can open and close the tailgate with the bike on the rack.

^^^ High-low means it can be flipped ... up for more ground clearance, down to clear tailgate, right? I might even get something like that to use with our 1Up. I’m also thinking about adding a hitch to our VW to have a more economical bike hauler and this would help lift the rack on that car too. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, that is correct, it can be flipped in either direction. The only downside would be if you were off road it would reduce your departure angle when it's in the low position by a lot. Probably close to a wash on the angle when it's in the high position but then you could not get into your bed.

Does anyone have any experience with the Rockymounts SplitRail tray rack? (specifically if it clears a lowered tailgate)
    Thanks
