I'm going to be putting on a 2 inch lift with bilstien 5100 ome coils and dakars. How long has this project taken others to do. I'm going to do it myself. I have access to a shop with a lift for about 5 hours this weekend will this be enough time? Otherwise I will have to do it in the driveway which will suck

Are the new struts already assembled? If they are it's about a two hour/six pack driveway project from start to finish.

i would say 2 hours if the coils and struts are already together and 4 if you need to assemble everything

You should be able to do the fronts easy, but I've never messed with leaves myself so IDK about the Dakars.

It took me and three others about 10 hrs to do mine. We worked two people per side and didn't have a lift. If I were you, I'd start on the rear while you have access to the lift. That was the hardest / sketchiest part to do without one. If you run out of time, the front is easier without a lift.

Same. First time installing a lift with me and a friend and I’d recommend starting on the Dakar’s. I’ve seen videos of people installing it solo but being my first time I feel like I would’ve been stuck out there forever. Replacing the leafs were no joke for me.

10 hours with 4 people? How many breaks did y'all take?

Me and a buddy did my complete 63 swap in 13 hours and that required cutting and welding and lots of fabrication.

Since you asked, I'm pretty sure we took a 30 min lunch break. So, 9.5 hrs to complete. I guess my penis is not as big as yours. Congrats!

    Easy there, sensitive one.

    1. I just find it hard to believe it took 10 hours with 4 dudes. There literally isn't that much work to do.
    2. 30 minutes is a good quality lunch break.
    3. Most likely.
    4. Thanks!

The coils are already assembled. I was planning in doing the front first because it looks like the more complicated part but I guess the leaves are harder than they look

The front is super easy. You shouldn't even have to disconnect the tie rods. There's alot of videos out there showing way too much stuff being disassembled. Disconnect the UCA from the spindle, remove the shock bolts, remove the strut, install in reverse from the removal. Simple.

There's a trick to doing the leaf packs. Don't try to do one leaf at a time. Do them both at the same time. Don't disassemble the shackle. Loosen the lower rear bolt and remove the bolt from the front of the leaf pack, then remove the rear upper bolt from the shackle.

When installing the new leaf pack, do the rear first and then front, then tighten and torque.

Also, I strongly recommend doing a u-bolt flip kit. Ruffstuffspecialties.com has the beefiest kit around.

Check out youtube and look at the two video series that Low Range Off Road put out. It explains everything you need to do including tools for each step and torque values.

I have done quite a few lift installs many years ago. I am about to put an OME kit on my 2018 Tacoma and after looking at the steps and watching the video, if it takes me more than 3 hours by myself without a lift in my driveway I will seriously consider whether I should ever be allowed to touch a wrench again. Scale of 1-10 on the lift-install-difficulty scale: Tacoma is about a 2.

It's really not bad I did it by myself in 3 1/2 hours. The leaves are easy.

Cool thanks for all the input. I've worked on a bunch of stuff with dune buggies and jeeps over th years so I'm totally incompetent with a wrench. My real concern was how long it will take to do.

Front if you’ve never done it about an 1.5 hours. Rear about the same, Dakar’s are heavy but I think when I did it alone it was roughly 3 hours
