    Anyone else notice this?

I noticed the synchro gears line up much easier after putting on 255/85/16 tires. I still have stock 4.3 r&p.

considering that shift ease is related to RPM, not wheel speed, I'd say this is pretty much in your head

Same. Noticed when I hit the RPMs just right for each gear it’s smooth sailing.

2nd gear is notorious for being notchy, if the RPMs aren’t right. 5th and 6th are starting it too.

Yea they may have fixed this tranny over the previous gen 2, but still far from being nice like the Audi my parents owned. That was butter..

Well designed MTs esp in German cars (ZF) and Miatas / Mazdas are always going to feel great. I wanted a 328 touring for a very long time.

The 5MT in our volvo V70 was craptastic at best but lightyears better than the AT that I test drove. The 5MT in our saab was a lot better once folks finally discovered that Red Line MTL was the shit. I tried a couple versions of the OEM fluid that never quite worked well.

For a truck, the Taco MT is pretty damn slick IMHO.

I think the wheel size does affect the shifting, but only indirectly at very low speeds and going over bumps due to larger outer diameter's inertia easing the sychro meshing consistency.

Agreed, mine is pretty smooth too.. although 3rd still gives me a little "chunk" once in a while (that's most likely me lol).
If only some of the ratios made a bit more sense... alas, still way better than a slushbox.

I do think it is you because it is me also. I can get butta smoooth shifts if I'm paying attention. If I try to phone it in, I get some unhappy feedback at times. I don't blame it on the transmission, but (in increasing order) the bit of slop in the drive line, that damn clutch accumulator, the mofo rev hang, and definitely me. Haha!

Yeah. A couple adjustments on the ratios would make it fantastic.

One of the first things I'm doing when the warranty is up - bypass the accumulator and see if I like the result. If it's a more raw, direct feel with better feedback and less ambiguity (without too much undue weirdness)- it stays bypassed. I know a hydraulic clutch won't ever feel like direct linkage, but hey - not too much messing with adjustments so that's a plus.
I've never bled a clutch system before though.. can't be that hard, right?

I wish our trucks shifted like my 97 Honda Civic. Effortless. You can go through all the gears and barely drop in RPM between gears. Throttle by cable helps.

A cable would be nice, but there was always a seasonal adjustment with those in my experience. Our previous cars with hydraulic clutches were great and had plenty of feel, but they had no accumulator-like devices.

Bleeding can be easy or rough. I could never get a vacuum bleeder to work and ended up pumping the thing hundreds of times to build pressure again. I've only had the careful, two-person method work for me. Someone posted here about making a pressure bleeder with a schrader valve bonded into a spare reservoir cap. Sounds like a good idea?

I can only see a bleed nipple on the slave. Nothing on the master. One on the master would make it stupid easy.

You will want to clamp off the master inlet hose while you're swapping out the accumulator.

I have a short section of line to do it, I just need to get it cut and double flared.

    My opinion on the 6MT:

    1. 1-2 gap in ratios is a bit too wide for the 2GR setup. It's not that you CAN'T roll around at low speed in 2nd, I just feel a lower ratio would work better with the engine's torque curve;
    2. Reverse is too high.
    3. 6th could be higher for better MPG on the highway, which would in turn make 5th more useful.

Disclaimer: I don't tow anything at the moment, so perhaps the 5th/6th ratios would make more sense in that case.

    Will do!

I'm still waiting on my friend to get his flaring tool back. If I only had another reason to buy one.

That accumulator, though. Is mine broken? It delays engagement until the top of the pedal stroke, then dumps it, unless I ride the hell out of it :frusty:

    I agree with you 100%
only things i fixed with 4.88s was the reverse and being able to start in second gear easier, 6th is now worse for mpg on highway, but it does feel peppy throughout the city and in 4wd low situations.

*Edit* In case anyone wants to know the mpg with 4.88s I get 16-17 mpg per tank with 285s and about 350lbs of extra weight added to the truck at all times

Yeah I should have mentioned that I'm completely stock right down to tire size except for OVtune.
I can certainly see where a re-gear would help everything except for highway MPGs.
What size tire are you running now (I assume that larger rubber was the main reason for the re-gear)?
