Here is a good question for all you inhabitants of the wrong half of Maryland, any recommendations for dog beaches to visit? Or beaches that are dog friendly?

Yes. I plan on getting someone loaded the weekend of the 21st. The driver would preferably leave on Friday and get here sometime Friday night or Saturday morning. Doing it this way saves me on a truck rental and being dead ass tired Monday morning at my new job. I currently have two people on standby. I will know this Saturday evening what won't fit into the POD. Hopefully it'll all fit and I won't need anyone to make the trip. But the offer to those who offered to help, can stay free at my place if you're ever in the area.

Him & the dealer couldn't agree on a price so he walked. He asked me my opinion & I told him if he didn't like the deal to walk, so he did. Last time I spoke to him he said he plans to wait til the end of the year when the 19's come out then see what kind of deal he can get on a 18.

Cool, just wanted to know and was curious too what happened. Shame they wouldn't work with him. You hear all these claims on the tv etc about how they have so much overstock, how they will match any price, how they will beat any price, and my favorite, 125% of KBB on your trade.

My policy is I go in and tell them flat out, I want 15% off the MSRP on the sticker. If you can't do that don't waste my time, I will find someone that will. I buy frequently and that has worked.

If you want more ammunition, there is a service called Fighting Chance. An industry insider will sell you the data for the prices the dealer is charged for every single option. I think the last time I used it, it cost 40 bucks. The bottom line was 15% off. I also used a service with Consumer Reports called Build & Buy. Basically as the name implies, you build the vehicle and dealers in the area that have agreed to participate solicit your business. I bought my Crosstour with that in 2010. I went online here at work, built the model, submitted it, and before I could get to the travel plaza on Boston St, I had 2 dealers call me. The first dropped his price by $1K when I told him I had just gotten a call from another dealer in the program. Ultimately I saved 17%. That service on top of the annual feel cost $14 bucks I think at the time. Best part about that is, you pit dealers against each other and wait for the offers to come in.

I hate buying cars but I do it so often I am used to the BS. I've even played the "here's my maximum price" thing on a piece of paper, slid across the table, after they came back "from talking with the manager" and their eyes told me I was dead on what their bottom line was. One even asked, "how did I come up with that price?" I said "I have my sources, and an offer from another dealer, wanna sell me the car or not?" and then got up and started to walk away.

Also there are strategic times to buy. Presidents Day is the absolute best. But aside from that, always the end of the month. Like 2 days before. That's when they are the most desperate. Also, like your brother, not needing, and just wanting a new car is always the best strategy, and let them know it.

Well, my strategies only work when the planets align. Some dealers have too much ego to sell you the car for the lowest price possible.

Here's some things I've lowered myself to saying:

"I don't care how many people you rip off with that price but if you want to sell me the car, it will not be for that".
They normally get angry with that statement. LOL. I don't care.

Along the same lines as that I will say
"That's a great price for the next guy that comes along, but for me, I want this price".

"I understand you work for a commission but you will make commission on other people, not on me". I get up and walk away when I say that. Because I know they also get bonuses for number of vehicles sold at the end of the month.

This is despicable but I have even gone in with printed out documents, faked of course, to look like invoices, and I will quickly show them a made up price. I will go to extreme lengths too. Copy logos etc and paste them at the top so it looks legit. Make bad copies with scribbles on them so it looks like a salesman actually worked it up, and then I will say "look I can go right to (and sorta let them see the logo but not all the way) so and so saying something like they asked me not to publish this price but I want you to see it because I really want to give you my business bla bla bla". The whole time knowing in my mind I want the 15% or nothing at all.

Oh, and extras, "take em off", "I can get better aftermarket for the same price or cheaper". I had them adjust the price at the last minute to deduct the bed mat and all weather floor mats. I told them to take them to the parts department and sell them. I know they can't. And wont.

It really sucks to be this way but the alternative is Carmax. And they are the worst! Trade is too. No one is going to give you what it's worth. They will find the lowest price for the best looking version and say yours is worth less because it is not as nice. The only way you win with a trade is a vehicle in high demand. My 4Runner was like that. I actually got KBB for that. I would think a Tacoma would pull high numbers too but apparently it depends on the dealership or market area.

I have a 2016 Lexus es300h and 2017 Tacoma Sport. I plan on keeping both until 2026, at least! Unless I get offered a great deal........
