I just finished (almost finished) installing a Mobtown Off-road aluminum IFS skid plate. I've read posts of people installing skid plates and many say "quick job, 4 bolts, 30 minutes). Not sure what brands they had, but this Mobtown piece has 6 attachment points. I was a little surprised at how much stuff comes off the truck to bolt the skid back on. The net weight increase really isn't that much... with the aluminum anyway.

All the holes lined up perfectly, everything was straight and the front and back bolts went in smoothly. The holes in the center are in deep sockets in which the craftsmanship is spot on. Not sure if it's just my case, but I'll have to get new bolts for the socket holes as the stock bolts are just too short. It may mention that on the website if there are online instructions or something.... but who looks at instructions :D.

The skid is nice for now. Ill be giving it a thrashing in a few weeks, and I'll post some follow up pics. 3rd genner? Need a skid? Don't want the "fat"? Go aluminum for sure. And Mobtown really offers a nice one.

Aluminum needs to be made thicker to be just as strong as steel, it's still lighter though

Those center bolts will work. Loosen the other 4 so the plate is in the air but can move. Put a block of wood of a floor jack, jack up the skid between the two center post. Then thread the bolts in and tighten all 6.

Edit: On occasion the alum skids flex a little here and there in weld. We use a fixture and it's clamped in multiple spots but it takes a ton of heat to weld thick aluminum so it will move around a little.

It's been my personal experience that Mobtown stuff fits TIGHT, once it's installed correctly that skid's not going anywhere. :D

I thought the provided bolts for my sliders weren't going to fit right, but after contacting Mobtown I learned it just takes a little patience to get it right.

I truly love their stuff!

Yeah I know that the alum is thicker. Its why I specified that mine were steel. I also tagged Mobtown so they could chime in, which they did. :)

My tranny skid arrived last week and I finally got a chance to install it. It's a pretty impressive pile of metal that you yank off to put these skids on. If you get aluminum, you are adding very little weight overall. I didn't weigh the pile of stuff that came off but here it is.

    20180411_164449.jpg

The new skid went in perfectly and bolted up to the front skid I installed.

    20180411_164356.jpg

I'm still having trouble with the center pocket bolts. I tried the trick mentioned above and I'm sure the aluminum is flush with the mounting spots. As I was taking the round junk bars off that are replaced by the tranny skid, I discovered those bolts are longer versions of the ones that were too short. I thought "score"... and did a little victory dance.

    20180411_164307.jpg

But my revelry was in vain, as even they are too short. I'll hit the hardware store tomorrow for even longer ones that will reach the threads up here...

    20180411_164506.jpg

And come on Mobtown... how about supplying the install tools as part of the kit. You know... a 19mm socket....an impact gun.... an air compressor... sheesh.

Actually this ordering, and installing process has been a pleasure. I appreciate the strong product line and the on line presence Mr Mob. ... or is it Mr Town?

Anyway... aluminum is the tits. Thanks for offering it.
