Super Ultimate 3rd Brake Light - Thanks to @mesojdm

Here’s some pics and my write up from my install of this amazing product!

After dropping the headliner, and removing the 2X 10mm Nuts holding the stock one in...this is what it looks like

    OEM Third Brake Light

After removing the OEM Brake Light, I switched the pattern of my Baja Design Rock Lights to 3 Red Brake and 2 Amber Cargo/Chase. I laid out the third brake light to seal it before installing it on the truck. I did a little on the table to get the rubber gasket seal to stay. I added some RTV under it, then laid the rubber gasket seal down on top of the RTV. I also at this time added some RTV to the wiring hole locations other than the two outside locations.

Next, I installed the gold clips that gave me the threaded inserts.

This would allow me to pull the brake light out FROM THE OUTSIDE if needed just like OP stated. I went to hold the third brake light up to the gold clips and realized both holes didn’t line up. I could use my hex screw in the left clip but then the right clip was off about 3/16”. Therefore, I removed the clips, drilled into the factory holes to make them a little bigger (on the inside) just like OP, reinstalled the gold clips, and then held it up to the clips again and they lined up now. Now it was time to add more RTV to the back and to the screws as I installed the third brake light.

Rather than waiting for it to cure, I decided to mount it still fresh so that the seal would be that much more secure. I’m praying that I will not need to remove my brake light at anytime, but if I should have to do so, I can. I didn’t necessarily want to make it permanent, but I also didn’t want it to leak. So I went with it. Here it is installed on the truck.

I am EXTREMELY happy with the fitment of this amazing product. Just like OP states, the housing matches the cab perfectly!

    All Done!

I need to take some more night shots but it has been raining since I installed it. Good news is, I have absolutely no leaking. Today it was raining pretty good so I was able to use my chase lights for the first time for visibility purposes. I’m so happy I decided to go with the two Amber. I figured why not since I already have bed lights mounted on my truck. Absolutely 100% happy with this product and strongly recommend it to everyone.

I'm interested in the light. Thanks for creating these mods (and to everyone else who tests them).

I can't speak for Maveric, but every black anodized Baja Designs light I've seen has turned brownish purple after extended sun exposure.

That's just the nature of an anodized finish. They all get ugly after the sun beats on em. I prefer an actual coating for this reason.

Depends. High quality hard-anodized finishes won't fade like that. In a former life I was involved in the manufacture of mountain bikes and also a bicycle mechanic. The cheap anodized finishes, like on a headset spacer, will fade pretty quickly. High end hard-anodized rims, cranks, handlebars, etc won't fade for a very long time, if at all.

Do you provide people behind you with a pair of sunglasses for when you need to put your brakes on now?

    Holy crap.

Not sure what I would be more interested in... a Baja or KC one for a Second Gen.

I would still want to do a Red, White, Amber, Red, Setup where the red comes on with brake lights, and then white and red and be switched on and off as either a bed light or a dust light.

Anyone know of a way you could possibly run the amber to do a flash pattern? Like a 3 flash strobe, 2 second off, 3 flash strobe, 2 second off?

That's good to know, but in that case I've never seen a high end anodized finish.

Is that something that a SwitchPro could handle? Mine is half assembled, but not truck ready, so I haven't begun goofing around with it or the app...

Possibly, but I think it just does a straight strobe instead of a pattern strobe.
