The ToyTec BOSS Lift Thread

Just bought a used 2014 trd off-road with this toytec left...which looks like BOSS to my untrained eye. Wondered if any knowledgeable folks had anything more to tell me about it from looking. Dealer really had no details.

 

@ToyTec Lifts correct me if I am wrong but the above appears to actually be a Toytec Ultimate Coilover which utilizes a Bilstein 5100 shock in it. You also need 2 different sized spanner wrenches to adjust it. Looks like you also have SPC UCA's. Probably installed about the same time the coilovers were.

You are correct Gramps, those are the Toytec Ultimate coilovers. That coilover is designed around the Bilstein 5100 series shock with our 2 piece machined collar that will turn the coilover into a full ride height adjustable coilover.

2 Spanners are needed to do your ride height, and from the looks of it, that is the older style adjuster sleeve.

Have the 2.5 kit installed. Also have a CBI alum front bumper, at what point do I put heavier springs on?

 

It all depends honestly, the BOSS 2.5 coilovers come out of the box with a 650 lb spring on them..

If you are planning on switching out to a full plate bumper/ winch I would recommend bumping them up to the 700lb springs.

How do they ride? And how much pre-load is on them?

 

At some point I will put a winch on. So far they ride much better than stock, definitely stiffer, less bouncy. Currently I’m sitting at 22.5” hub to fender both sides.

Also, I’ve always had alignment issues, maybe it’s where I’m getting it aligned. But it appears that my passenger side front has more of an angle than my drivers side. Last set of tires had awful wear. Any knowledge on this? Maybe @Gramps could chime in too?

 

Yeah that looks a bit off. Has the alignment shop mentioned seized CAM Bolts on that side? Appears they are not adjusting the LCA correctly.

I'm on my second set of the boss kit. 1st one toasted the rears after 30000 Canadian kilometres and the fronts went at about 130000 kilometres. The kit pictured has about 25000 kilometres on it.
I love the feel of their product. I still have to adjust my coils to full ride height.
I haven't added a winch yet and also haven't had sag after adding the front steel bumper.

 

3000km so far and riding great! Few trips out and got to compare with a third gen on icons w/ resis. Definitely the better choice for BC's mountains

 

By the look on the pictures, seems someone tried to get rid of the Taco lean by adjusting just one strut, maybe too much. Measure your threads on each side and center of wheel to fender for comparison.

 

I am starting to explore lifts. I like Toytec as they are local to me, how has everyones boss kit been holding up, specifically the 2.0 kit? Looks good from what I can see. Would love to here some owner opinions!

 

I am pretty sure it is Cam-bolt related. Toytec will be aligning it for me end of the month. Hub to fender is only .5" lower on the passenger side and thats the side thats pulling and camber is off.

Hey there I thought the lift is only 0-2” for our 3rd gens?

 

are these worth saving for the springs? 45k on them, just replaced with a new set.

 

Question for Toytec.....
I have exact setup here you quoted. Put new billys on the front with my 650lb springs. Any time i go over even the smallest change in road, it feels like my engine is going to drop to the floor. Could they be TOO stiff? Any suggestions?

Also....I spent hours today looking for info.....what billys replace the BOSS rear shock? Please advise!!!!

 

To the guys that have the coil overs set to a full 3 inches of lift , do you have any complaints about the rebound ? I have the coil overs on my F150 set at 2 3/4 inches of lift and its FRIGGIN HORRIBLE . I am going to back them off asap .
I am looking at the Boss kit for my new toy but am scared to death to have them set that high .
