Hey guys got a question on this local buy around me. Guys got an ARE shell off his 2013 double cab short bed hes trying to sell in super white, which happens to be the same color as my 2017 trd off road double cab short bed. Are the 2nd gen and 3rd gen shells the same or are they totally different? Any help would be awesome. Thanks.

And even if they were the same dimensions, the color wouldn't be an exact match, since his has an extra few years of weathering on the paint.

My understanding is that because the older beds weren't as deep, the caps were designed taller. Therefore this shell will sit too high above your cab causing wind resistance.

You can also says try it though and maybe you might be fine with it. Great thing about Tacoma stuff is if you get for a deal then you can sell it for the same price or more.

Don't quote me, but I believe the overall dimensions are the same. But the tailgate interface is very different. There are possibly other variences that I am not aware of as well.

The 2nd Gens have skinny tailgate compared to a fatter tailgate on the 3rd Gens. So there will be fitment/leaking issues there.

Long story short, its a no go.

The third gen beds are an inch taller, and the tailgate design is different on the top, so the rear window/hatch wouldnt work properly. Pass on this one and look for one from a 16-18 year model

Go try it out. I ran several 1st gen caps on my 2nd gen over the years. Not a perfect fit by any means, but good enough to keep most weather out and not look totally weird.
