I got one of these at the end of last year: I've only used it a few times, but it works great. It usually goes on sale for $40.

At that price, it is crazy not to give it a go.

I have this one also. It works and gets the job done. I have loaned it to a neighbor too. But for the occasional use it works.

I haven't had a cordless drill in over a decade and was getting desperate for an impact after screwing with a couple nuts on a crankshaft that needed a floor jack handle as a cheater on a ratchet. Smooth, right? A friend's battery powered impact was pretty impressive. My corded drill has been good enough, was cheaper, and I don't have to worry about battery packs.

I was ready to pony up for the highest torque battery powered one that HF had, but I couldn't be pulled away from the price of that corded one. I don't mind cords most of the time these days.

I have been meaning to test this out with the Taco's 400w plug. Some folks say that higher draws can work, sometimes. I just haven't figured out what gets tripped if I go over the limit. At 7A, that is a bit over 800w. I'm just not sure if those short pulses would trip anything or not?

I'm new to this thread so apologies if this is old news.

If you're not familiar with this guy I HIGHLY recommend him. He's an enginerd and super smart when it comes to tools. Harbor Freight (Hazard Fraught) is one of his favorite to review: https://youtu.be/jqWypTAG4Hw

I tried to run a circle saw on the bed plug. Nothing tripped and the blade did turn but no where near as fast as it should. As soon as I tried to cut wood it just stopped.

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
If it trips, you just have to turn it back on.

I doubt the running power is anywhere near 7A probably just starting power, HF electronics are many times grossly over-rated (like the little 2.5 hp compressor)

I did that as well. My shop vac runs at a reduced power too.

I have used that little plug a lot, I plan to put a 2000w inverter in under the seat and wire it to that plug some day.

Won't a 2k inverter require to be directly wired to the battery? I'm thinking you will need some heavier leads from the battery to the inverter as well to get 2k watts.

    Definately

My plan is to move the stock inverter plug to the console inside, and wire up a 2k inverter to the bed mounted plug

Cool. My fear was you were gonna use the existing wires. Glad you were aware. I just wanted it to be clear to others that what you were doing would require additional wiring.

    Thanks

I think I was gone before they started running that line. The only thing I can say about the welders is that we rarely if ever had any come back, but at the same time, we rarely if ever sold any either. I knew a lot of guys that would come in for the welding cart, the masks, and other welding tools and supplies, but they typically recommended spending the money and getting a quality brand name welder.

Cheap welders are accessible but don’t change the price of fabricating. Most of those $100 HF welders are for ranch and farm use to booger something back together.

Hobbyists aren’t generally buying them.. lot of associated cost with welders and supplies/reason to weld in the first place.

They are somewhat close in retail price, but I'm willing to bet there's quite a bit different about them. They probably have the same profit margin, but the Rigid sells for $40 less. That's gotta come from somewhere. Mostly likely lower grade switch and electronics, cheaper motor, cheaper gears, etc. Might look similar, but I bet it much different.

    They’re definitely not the same.

Lower grade everything - still good, but not as good.

my 1/2 HD slow RPM drill still works great and drives in 10 in long x 1/2 lag bolts with ease, even broke a few bolts

always use the extra handle or you will hurt something
