shortie antennas

i used to have one of the 6" shortie antennas on my duramax...i'd like to put one on the tacoma. unscrewing the antenna from the duramax was a piece of cake...does the tacoma one screw in or is it held in place w/retainer clips, etc. it doesn't seem to want to unscrew that easily. anyone have any helpful hints so i don't damage the stock antenna or slip and damage the paint?

Where did you get your shortie?? I've been looking for one that fits-but @ 30 bucks for the best one I've found I don't want to pull the trigger and then have it not fit.

on the ami shorties, did you have to use an adapter or did the thread size match right up?

 

It comes w/ 3 adapters, I also got the 21" blk Stubbie and had to use one of the adapters. I got it for looks but, found my reception actually got better, especially my AM channels.

speaking of screws.....nice avatar (again).

My shortie Antenna sucks for reception. I can't get into the garage with the stock one on though. So I bought a subscription for Serius. Woo wee.

 

Well I bought one of these shortie antennas in a 21” and I’m not too impressed. It is so stiff that if you ever hit something with it or somebody tried to break it off, I think the base would be damaged. Also since the thing doesn’t bend the base would be under stress anytime you are going fast. It’s probably most useful as a weapon since you could probably kill somebody with it.

 

+1 one. This is where I got mine. It just screws in. Takes 30 seconds to install.

I'm tempted to get one of these things. I was off-roading yesterday, and the stock antennae kept getting whacked by tree branches... it was mildly annoying.

 

thats one reason i want to get a new one also it hits in this parking structure i go in.

 

Does the antenna require an adapter? Also is there any flex to the antenna or is it a stiff piece of steel?

 

There are adapters that come with the antenna but you don't need them. It is made of stainless steel so it is stiff! (or that what she said...) Seriously, there is very minimal flex if any but it will flex when needed.
