Correct brake pads?

Hey everyone,

Recently I upgraded my brake components to EBC vented & slotted rotors with the EBC green Stuff pads.My truck weighs about 500-600 lbs more than stock.

Going down a hill one day riding the brakes a little to much I noticed the stopping power dramatically decreased. On a regular basis they stop OK, seem about the same, maybe a tad better than stock.Should I have gone with Red Stuff vs the Green Stuff pads?

Thoughts?

EBC, extra duty orange stuff pads. Yellow stuff are lite duty Truck/SUV/Jeep. I run orange on my Jeep.

 

So they stop heavier vehicles better?

 

That's because slotted and drilled rotors don't do anything for performance. Less material = less heat sink = fade.

If you really want to get better performance, go BBK.

 

They aren't drilled. Vented and Slotted. They cool quicker which is the reason i got them, i drive in traffic daily

 

Yes, work well for me off road with a bunch of armor, and towing boat with Jeep.

Check your rear brakes , they may not be adjusted properly. Use your e brake often. You can adjust them by engaging e brake lightly then going in reverse slowly and hitting your brake pedal a few times.

 

Interesting, reversing and slowly applying the handbrake adjusts the performance of the rear brakes when driving forward?

 

Stock rotors are already vented. Slotting does nothing for cooling.

 

Reversing slowly with e brake on a few clicks while pumping foot brake pedal will adjust them.

 

What? Stock rotors are NOT vented, they are flat and smooth, nothing done to the surface of the rotor. I have a 2016 TRDOR

Yes stock are Vented but not slotted and cross drilled which is what yours are.

 

The aftermarket rotors you pictured are "drilled and slotted." Again, drilled and slotted rotors do nothing for cooling. The OE rotor is a blank rotor--the vents are around the outer perimeter of the rotor. All front rotors are vented. If we had a rear rotor, they'd most likely look like the first one in the picture below (non-vented, solid).

Vented means nothing about the surface. It means there is a space in the middle of the rotor to increase surface area for cooling, like this. Stock rotors have them.

I would have gone BBK, but that is WAY to expensive with a newborn. I got my whole setup with green stuff pads for $300 and I am pleased, just need the orange stuff pads according to na8rboy

 

I have EBC yellow pads. I definitely feel they were an upgrade from stock though I went with just vented EBC rotors since the drilled and slotted work just makes the rotor weaker off-road and more likely to break under thermal stress from water crossings.
